Italian piano genius Stefano Bollani's new Brazilian album QUE BOM building on the success of his successful album CARIOCA (2008), which sold over 70'000 copies. QUE BOM primarily consists of Bollani's own original tunes and distinctive melodies strongly influenced and informed by Brazilian music culture, which Bollani has always cherished since the very beginning of his rich, multifaceted crackerjack music making and dexterous playing. In QUE BOM - a genuine hymn to life marked by sparkling liveliness and (contagious) joy - Bollani is joined by the same outstanding rhythm section as in CARIOCA - Jorge Helder (db), Jurim Moreira (dr) and Armando Marçal (perc) - plus Thiago da Serrinha (perc), but here, in QUE BOM, also by the grand guest stars Caetano Veloso, João Bosco, Jaques Morelenbaum and Hamilton de Holanda.

Les Baxter is a pianist who composed and arranged for the top swing bands of the '40s and '50s, but he is better known as the founder of exotica, a variation of easy listening that glorified the sounds and styles of Polynesia, Africa, and South America, even as it retained the traditional string-and-horn arrangements of instrumental pop. Exotica became a massively popular trend in the '50s, with thousands of record buyers listening to Baxter, Martin Denny, and their imitators. Baxter also pioneered the use of the electronic instrument the theremin, which has a haunting, howling sound.

Les Baxter (1922-1996) used to be an utterly talented composer and bandleader who was on the go to the max during his active years. His version and as I should say vision of jazz music was a contemporary fresh and colorful sound with an exotic vibe due to the use of many elements of latin music within a modernized big band sound.

Three brilliant improvisers join Tunisian oud master Anouar Brahem in this album, recorded in New York in May 2017. For Brahem and Dave Holland the album marks a reunion: they first collaborated 20 years ago on the very widely-acclaimed Thimar album, a trio recording with John Surman. Brahem meets Jack DeJohnette for the first time here, but Holland and DeJohnette have, of course, been frequent musical partners over the last half-century, beginning with ground-breaking work with Miles Davis: their collaborations are legendary. British pianist Django Bates also rises superbly to the challenge of Brahem’s compositions. And Anouar in turn is inspired to some of his most outgoing playing.

Sonho Real glows with the colours of the butterfly. There are hints of forro and ragga, frenzied ska rhythms and a dub nonchalance. The 14 tracks on the album stand alone as individual statements but work in sequence and flow as one. Brass section, guitars, keyboards, percussion, drums, bass and accordion blend into a consistent whole enhanced by the subtle mixing skills of Victor-Attila who provides a modern gloss with a vintage feel, all the while showcasing Flavia's voice and harmonies: sensual, joyous with the innocence of childhood.

Dag Arnesen’s musical journey began with classical piano training, drawing inspiration from beautiful Bergen’s own legacy in music, particularly through composer/pianists like Edvard Grieg.

In 1965, Astrud Gilberto was telling her producer, Creed Taylor, how much she admired arranger Gil Evans and his groundbreaking "cool jazz" work with Miles Davis. Taylor managed to hire Evans for her next album, "Look To The Rainbow". Evans challenged her but Gilberto's aloof vocals matched Evans's cool arrangements, which at times used Gilberto's voice as another instrument in the mix.

For his sophomore release with Resonance Records, Swedish guitarist, songwriter, and producer Andreas Öberg presents "Six String Evolution". Featuring John Patitucci on bass, Lewis Nash on drums, Dave Kikoski on keys, and Darmon Meader on sax and vocals, this is an ear-charming mix of smooth jazz, ballads and funk, with hints of Latin influences.
