At a time when many newspapers are cutting back on their comics sections, DC Comics is looking to remind readers of the fun and excitement a full Sunday-sized comics section can offer. Except they’re going to do it on Wednesdays. This then is the rationale behind DC's , a new 12-part weekly series launched this summer, presented in a 14” x 20” broadsheet format and that will have to be unfolded and opened to be read. The "Wednesday" part of the title refers to the fact new comic books go on sale at comic book stores nationwide every Wednesday. The concept is to try to recapture the spirit, format, and sense of enjoyment that people had from reading the Sunday comics that arrive in newspapers every week. Each issue is 16 pages and each story takes up one full page when folded out. For each issue there will be 15 weekly strips that will be presented in newspaper format, which will feature some of DC Comics' primary characters, as well as some of the premiere creators in the business.

Superman for All Seasons was a 4-issue comic book limited series written by Jeph Loeb with art by Tim Sale, and was originally published by DC Comics in 1998. This was made hot off the heels from their previous success, Batman: The Long Halloween, and as that Batman-story dealt with holidays as the theme, this story's theme dealt with seasons. The artwork contains many influences from that of Norman Rockwell. The story also parallels the events from Superman's then-origin story John Byrne's The Man of Steel, though it can be read on its own.

DC Comics has teased the identity of the mystery batgirl the whole summer, and we'll be finding out, if not in this first issue of an as yet undetermined storyline (ongoing or limited series?) then surely in the subsequent releases. is part of the new series of titles and issue #1 was released August 19, 2009.

is the second five-issue limited series entitled “Ultraspacial Dreadnought Vanaheim”, of a comic book written by Warren Ellis with art by Facundo Percio and published by Avatar Press. The first limited series also consisted of five issues. It's a sci-fi thriller with lots of action, lots of new concepts, and a general sense that you’re reading something you’ve never seen before--vintage Ellis at his best. Percio's artwork is no slouch, either, filling the pages with panel after panel of gorgeous, detailed--even intricate--drawings in a distinctive style that fits the storyline like a glove. There's witty dialogue and thoughtful scientific and sociological concepts. High-concept blockbuster movie comics at their best.
