This release includes the live recording of Suzanne Ciani’s quadraphonic sound performance held on 16 June 2023 in Rome.
On a stage raised above water and surrounded by four stone sphinxes, Ciani performed "Improvisation on Four Sequences" in the garden of Villa Lontana, responding to its natural environment. Using dials, knobs and patch cords, the “Diva of the Diode” engages in an elegant dance with the Buchla 200e to produce her groundbreaking electronic music, while always remaining true to her classically inspired sense of melody. This vinyl is QUARK encoded to play in both stereo and Regular Matrix quadraphonic sound. The digital version offers a two-channel master drawn from the same immersive recording. QUARK is made possible by dublab & the National Endowment for the Arts.

Suzanne Ciani was one of the first and finest woman artists to make a name for herself in the world of electronic music. Ciani earned a Masters degree in composition from the University of California at Berkeley, where she studied with electronic pioneers Max Matthews, John Chowning, and Don Buchla. In 1975 she moved to New York, where she got involved in the Soho art scene, and also worked with minimalist Philip Glass. She began to hit the big time with the establishment of Ciani Musica, Inc., one of the foremost commercial production companies in the country. Ciani later expanded into film scoring and gained recognition for her work on Lily Tomlin's The Incredible Shrinking Woman as well as the award-winning feature documentary Mother Teresa.

A previously unheard 1969 album by synth pioneer Suzanne Ciani called Flowers Of Evil is being released for the first time, via Finder’s Keepers. Inspired by the Charles Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs Du Mal, specifically the poem ‘Élévation’, its 4-tracks feature a recital of the poem accompanied by Ciani on the Buchla. Ciani initially used her own voice in the recordings, before enlisting a French student to recite ‘Élévation’ in French.
