Free Fall was the Dixie Dregs first record, released in 1977. Overall, many critics consider this album one of the band's best efforts. Free Fall features a good mix of southern rock, bluegrass and jazz styles but sounds more jazz oriented and funky than other Dixie Dregs recordings. "Refried Funky Chicken" is just that–funky–as guitarist/songwriter Steve Morse makes use of a well-oiled wah-wah pedel throughout the tune. "Holiday" has very fluid, rolling feel with drummer Rod Morgenstein and bassist Andy West providing a very tight rhythm backing. "Moe Down" showcases the southern/pickin' sound that the Dregs practically patented. The CD closes with the quiet and fluid "Northern Lights". For a first album, this one is a killer, one of the Dixie Dregs best.

Their best up to this point. I'm Freaking Out is the top composition they ever did. New keyboardist T Lavitz really shines on that one, as well as Morgenstein. The Great Spectacular is a re-recording of a song from their pre-label release of the same name, and it features one of Morse's best solos ever laid to wax. Both of the Dregs album standards, the classical piece and the country tune have strong representatives on here as well. They thought enough of Road Expense to open their first live album years later. Not a down track on here.

Steve Morse (guitar) and T Lavitz (keyboards), the creative foundation of the Dixie Dregs, produced an outstanding record with this effort. Joined by Rod Morgenstein (drums), Andy West (bass). and Alan Sloan (violin), they finally released a studio recording of Cruise Control, a regular show closer for the band to this day. Kat Food is another outstanding track. Carefully arranged and tightly rehearsed, this album represents a tour de force for the band, both in performance and composition. Day 444 is a hidden gem, dedicated to the American hostages held in the US Embassy in Tehran, Iran, for 444 days. This piece is a beautiful ballad that the band rarely performs. This composition alone makes the album worth getting. The band's blend of jazz, rock, country, and western classical music remains as satisfying to listen to as it did when this was released.

BETTER DAYS COMIN' is the highly anticipated new album from WINGER! Brand new studio album from these classic hard rockers. Once again Winger offers an exciting mixture of the melodic and commercial approach of their first two albums with the more technical and almost progressive rock feel of such albums as "Pull" or "IV".

It's hard to imagine two albums as different as the pair that Jordan Rudess released during a two-year span – 2002's 4NYC and 2004's Rhythm of Time. While the former is comprised of solo, tranquil compositions, the latter is a full-on modern-day prog metal assault, with a gaggle of special guests contributing to the rock fury (Joe Satriani, Steve Morse, Vinnie Moore, Greg Howe, Rod Morgenstein, Kip Winger, etc.). And while the sounds of Rhythm of Time would provide a perfect soundtrack for a busy city street, Rudess supposedly recorded his parts in seclusion from the outside world over a two-week span. Before playing such over the top tunes as "Time Crunch," "Screaming Head," and "What Four," be sure to strap on your seat belt. There are few keyboardists in rock as technically gifted on their instruments as Dream Theater's Jordan Rudess, and Rhythm of Time proves it once and for all.
