Florida Swamp Blues…. that's the music of Smokehouse. The lowdown guitar sound of Robert ''Town Crier'' Thomas. The deep Blues vocals and harp playing of Anthony ''Packrat'' Thompson that make you think of the pine flatwoods and cypress bottoms of Central Florida. The swamp sound of Baton Rouge has spread and taken root in these steamy Florida lowlands. The Town Crier is from New Smyrna Beach; Packrat is from Lake Helen. Although they have shared bandstands since the late 1970's, It wasn't until 1988 that they began to explore their common roots and their love of the Blues. They recruited Gary and Ture to provide a fat bottom and they began to hypnotize audiences throughout the South-East with their simple, straight-forward and powerful music. Don't expect Rock-Blues pyrotechnics of trick arrangements… or even the familiar, horn-lead King Snake sound! This is straight down-home Blues, played with emotion and conviction. The Swamp Blues… Florida style and as only Smokehouse can play'em!

The concept of TALKING WITH THE BLUES is based on a view of the various US states as blues regions. Even casual blues listeners are familiar with the fact that there is Chicago Blues or Mississippi Blues and the gripping social history of the music is very much marked by its geography. But there is much more that just those two places and to this day blues music stays committed to local styles. Moreover, many US states are endowed with a unique cultural identity grown out of the prevailing social, historical and ethnic realities. Reflections of these specific identities are also expressed in the blues.

After cutting a handful of brilliant singles for Decca in the mid-'50s, Jackie Lee Cochran became the King of Rockabilly, West Coast Division with a decade's worth of performances in barrooms up and down the West Coast. Producer/rockabilly fanatic Ronny Weiser recorded Cochran in the '70s for his Rollin' Rock label, and the best of those sides are collected here on this 20-track compilation. Cochran still had a lot of gas left in the tank when these sides were cut, and Weiser wisely kept the production simple and spartan. Highlights include a snappy recut of "Mama, Doncha Think I Know," "Hell to Pay," "Hip Shakin' Mama," and "Hug'N'Kiss Me."

The best of Johnnie Allan’s swamp pop performances for Jin and Viking dating from the late 1950s through the 80s, featuring his all-time classic ‘The Promised Land’ and the local anthem ‘South To Louisiana’. A glance at the release number indicates that Johnnie Allan’s ‘Promised Land’ dates back to the early days of Ace’s CD releases, 1992 in fact. Remember, this was the time before full colour reproduction, even label scans. Some 20 years later, this set has been given a welcome facelift and generally freshened up; note the new cover design for a start.

Having forged a unique Louisiana/Chicago blues synthesis unlike anyone else's on the competitive Windy City scene, charismatic guitarist Lonnie Brooks long reigned as one of the town's top bluesmen. A masterful showman, the good-natured Brooks put on a show equal to his recordings (and that's saying a lot, considering there are four-plus decades of wax to choose from). Collection includes: Bayou Lightning (1979); Hot Shot (1983); Wound Up Tight (1986); Satisfaction Guaranteed (1991); Deluxe Edition (1997); Lone Star Shootout (1999) with Long John Hunter and Phillip Walker.

Louisiana Blues, Swamp Blues | MP3 CBR 320 kbps | 01:08:55 | 165 MB
Label: Jasmine Records | Release Year: 2017

Jasmine's latest excursion into the swamp blues sounds of Louisiana concentrates on two of the most popular 'second tier' artists of the genre. Both artists were involved for much of their career with famed Louisiana producer, Jay Miller and although neither artist ever enjoyed a national R&B chart hit, both enjoyed consistent sales and jukebox hits throughout the 50s and 60s. Tabby Thomas and Lonesome Sundown exuded the New Orleans style probably none more so than Lonesome, he was perhaps the epitome of the swamp blues artists with a recognisable sound full of creative and meaningful lyrics described as 'the sound of the swamp'.

Could this be the funniest movie ever made? By any rational measure of comedy, this medieval romp from the Monty Python troupe certainly belongs on the short list of candidates. According to Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide, it's "recommended for fans only," but we say hogwash to that–you could be a complete newcomer to the Python phenomenon and still find this send-up of the Arthurian legend to be wet-your-pants hilarious. It's basically a series of sketches woven together as King Arthur's quest for the Holy Grail, with Graham Chapman as the King, Terry Gilliam as his simpleton sidekick Patsy, and the rest of the Python gang filling out a variety of outrageous roles.
