Three CD set featuring 66 tracks by The Sweet Inspirations cut for Atlantic Records between 1967 and 1970. A comprehensive collection from the voices behind a plethora of hitmakers including Solomon Burke, The Drifters, Aretha Franklin, Elvis Presley, Wilson Pickett and many others, who were signed in their own right by Jerry Wexler. Including the Top five R&B and Top 20 pop hit, 'Sweet Inspiration'. The set also includes eight tracks with the line-up including Ann Williams who replaced Cissy Houston; produced by Dave Crawford and Brad Shapiro, it was originally intended for release as an entire LP and has never been released in full until now. With stellar liner notes by renowned US writer/essayist Tim Dillinger including extensive quotes from Estelle Brown specifically for this reissue, and produced by SoulMusic Records' founder David Nathan, with mastering by Nick Robbins and artwork by Roger Williams.

Cissy Houston, Myrna Smith, Sylvia Shemwell, and Estelle Brown had deep separate and shared histories when they became the Sweet Inspirations in 1967. That April, hot off backing Aretha Franklin and Van Morrison at the studio dates that yielded "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" and "Brown Eyed Girl," the singers recorded their first session as headliners for Atlantic. The group left Atlantic Recording Studios with ardent interpretations of contemporary material that, depending on the source, either reaffirmed its gospel foundation or took it to church, but none of the resulting songs – all eventual A-sides – truly shook up the charts. This would typify the Sweet Inspirations' four years with the label. Perhaps the women were underserved. Only two of their nine charting singles were written for them, and the one that did best, "Sweet Inspiration" – their lone Top 20 pop and Top Ten soul hit – was dashed off by Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham after the songwriting duo watched them attempt to spin gold from straw in the studio. Unfulfilled commercial promise notwithstanding, the group during these years – with Ann Williams replacing Houston in 1969, then leaving her partners a trio the next year – produced a high volume of powerful R&B and gospel.

They First Came To Prominence Dressed Like Hard Rockers, But Playing Bubblegum Pop - 'Co-Co', 'Wig Wam Bam' - Before Embracing The Emerging Glam Rock Movement And Becoming Regulars On Top Of The Pops. Smashes Like 'Block Buster!' And 'Ballroom Blitz' Are Very Fondly Remembered By Glam Fans, And Subsequent Singles 'Teenage Rampage' And 'Hell Raiser' Chased Them Up The Charts. The Band Then Moved Towards An Increasingly Rocky Sound And Hit Big With 'Fox On The Run' And 'Action'. In All Sweet Had One Chart Topper And Five Number Two Singles.

Originally called The Sweetshop, the British band The Sweet enjoyed phenomenal success in the 1970s, at the time of glam rock, before disbanding in 1982 and making way for three different bands created by their former members.

Susanna Hoffs, a founding member of The Bangles and co-conspirator Matthew Sweet released three full volumes of their Under The Covers series between 2006 and 2013, on which the two teamed up to pay homage to many of the singles (and album deep cuts) from the '60s, '70s, and '80s which informed and shaped their own musical destinies. The Beatles, Dylan, Fairport Convention, Neil Young, The Beach Boys, The Who, Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac, Carly Simon, The Ramones, The Clash, The Pretenders, The Smiths and Prince are amongst the 57 acts covered. With guest appearances from Lindsey Buckingham, Steve Howe, Van Dyke Parks and Dhani Harrison, this 60 song package contains all three albums and fifteen previously-hard-to-get bonus tracks plus a 48 page booklet with annotation by Sweet and Hoffs, all gathered together for the first time.

Sweet (referred to as The Sweet on albums before 1974 and singles before 1975) were a popular 1970s british band.
Although Sweet were largely known for their glam rock image, and several hit singles — many of them being so-called teenage anthems — they also released several albums throughout a ten year career.

Sweet Sensation was an eight piece British soul group who had some success in the mid-1970s. They are best known for their 1974 No. 1 UK hit, "Sad Sweet Dreamer".
Formed in Manchester in 1971, the band came to prominence after appearing on the ITV talent show New Faces. Under the guidance of panellist Tony Hatch, the band signed to Pye Records. The debut single "Snowfire" failed to reach the charts, but the follow-up "Sad Sweet Dreamer" was a UK number one single in October 1974 that also reached No. 14 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 the following spring. The follow-up "Purely by Coincidence" reached No. 11 in the UK in January 1975. Both songs were written by David Parton.
