This book highlights new trends and challenges in research on agents and the new digital and knowledge economy. It includes papers on business- process management, agent-based modeling and simulation, and anthropic-oriented computing, which were originally presented at the 13th International KES Conference on Agents and Multi-Agent Systems – Technologies and Applications (KES-AMSTA 2019) held June 17–19, 2019 at St George’s Bay, St. Julians, Malta.

This book intends to report the new results of the efforts on the study of Layered Intelligence of the Machine Brain (LIMB). The book collects novel research ideas in LIMB and summarizes the current machine intelligence level as “five layer intelligence”- environments sensing, active learning, cognitive computing, intelligent decision making and automatized execution. The book is likely to be of interest to university researchers, R&D engineers and graduate students in computer science and electronics who wish to learn the core principles, methods, algorithms, and applications of LIMB.

"This book fills a much needed gap," or so Moses Hadas (1900-1966, Columbia University Professor of Classical Literature) is reputed to have cynically said of another author's efforts. The gap that pertains to the present work is that between traditional biology subject matter and applied mathematics. The twenty-first century is touted as the century of mathematical biology, by which we mean that many of the important practical as well as theoretically interesting problems involve biological systems of such complexity that traditional experimental analysis must be coupled with mathematical synthesis. Other authors have noted the need to expose biology students to greater quantitative training and have provided biologist-friendly introductions to computer simulation focused on a variety of biological subdisciplines. I continue to think we need a general textbook, applicable to a wide range of biological systems, but with enough rigor that some of the depth of the underlying mathematical and computational substance can be appreciated by biology students. This necessarily removes biologists from their intellectual comfort zone, but my goal is to perturb the mind, and my hope is that a student's current knowledge base is an unstable equilibrium.

This book gathers the latest advances, innovations and applications in the field of robotics and mechatronics, as presented by leading international researchers and engineers at the 6th IFToMM International Symposium on Robotics and Mechatronics (ISRM), held in Taipei, Taiwan, on October 28–30, 2019.
