The Human Stain

In the late 1990s, writer Nathan Zuckerman (Gary Sinise) has settled in a lakeside New England cabin following his second divorce and a battle with prostate cancer. His idyllic life is interrupted by Coleman Silk (Anthony Hopkins), a former dean and professor of classics at local Athena College, who was forced to resign after being accused of making racist remarks in class. Coleman's wife died suddenly following the scandal, and he wants to avenge his loss of career and companion by writing a book about the events with Nathan's assistance…

Comprising personal accounts from an intensely consequential chapter in human history, the transatlantic slave trade, The Great Stain takes listeners from the depths of suffering to the heights of human dignity.

'Beyond the Screen: Film Works On Piano' is an album by Oscar-winning composer Rachel Portman OBE comprising some of her most cherished film music for solo piano. She refers to the piano as her best friend, adding 'I spend all day with it, most days. I think probably I'm pianistic in my soul'. Hence, piano miniatures are a natural second life for her highly melodic scores. The album comprises various solo piano arrangements based on her well-known soundtracks such as 'Chocolat', 'The Cider House Rules' and 'The Dutchess'. Portman was very selective, however, about which pieces would translate best without an orchestra: 'I wanted them to be pieces that work in their own way, that are satisfying'.
