The Original Indiana Five was an excellent dixieland-oriented band that never really rose out of obscurity. The ensemble recorded 98 selections during 1923-29 and six others as part of drummer Tom Morton's larger band; few have ever been reissued, whether on Lp or on disc. This CD, easily the definitive Original Indiana Five release put out to date, has all of the band's 23 recordings for the Harmony label (the quintet recorded for several companies) plus Morton's three selections for Harmony.

"Diana!" is the first solo television special of American singer Diana Ross and aired on ABC on April 18, 1971. The special was choreographed by David Winters of West Side Story fame, who at that time choreographed all of Ross' stage and television shows. The special featured performances by The Jackson 5, and also included Jackson 5 lead singer Michael Jackson's solo debut. Michael Jackson performed Frank Sinatra's "It Was a Very Good Year", which drew laughter as its adult-themed lyrics were changed to fit his age. Other guests included Danny Thomas and Bill Cosby, who would be featured on a similar television special by the Jackson 5 (Goin' Back to Indiana) a few months later.

If you like jazz, you might as well listen to this CD, and hear where it started. Okay, so it didn't exactly start here. The ODJB didn't invent jazz - no matter what their leader, cornetist Nick LaRocca, says. But they were the first to record jazz, and they had an incalcuable influence on a lot of what came afterwards, simply because they put their music down on wax. These early recordings have been put out many times by many different labels, but according to the Penguin Guide, this issue has the best sound…

The Modern Jazz Quartet or "MJQ", one of the most successful bands of the so called "Third Stream", was a direct outgrowth of the Dizzy Gillespie orchestra: pianist John Lewis, vibraphonist Milt Jackson, bassist Ray Brown, later replaced by Percy Heath, and drummer Kenny Clarke (the first drummer with the group) often played interludes and intermissions for Gillespie in the late 1940s. Fusing Cool Jazz and European musical forms, the quartet functioned almost like a classical string quartet, and thus brought Jazz to the concert halls around Europe and across the globe. The twenty original albums in this 10 CD-box document the group at the height of their career and include classics like "Concorde" and "Pyramid", as well as many of their acclaimed soundtracks.

Newly remastered and recompiled for 2000, this version of the Jackson 5's Anthology takes the place of the original double-CD set, which was first issued on LP back in 1976. The main difference is that where the first Anthology featured some of Michael and Jermaine's earliest solo hits, this one is devoted exclusively to Jackson 5 material, with a little more detail added to the pictures of their early pop-soul years and their later disco-influenced work. All of the group's charting singles are here, as well as important B-sides and album tracks, including several songs that have never previously appeared on CD. Later hits like "Dancing Machine" and "Hum Along and Dance" are also presented in their full-length LP versions.
