When Viktoria Tolstoy sings, it is her personal background, the things that have made her who she is, that resonate above all. Her choice of songs is rooted in her own experience, whether it be a deep attachment to her native country ("My Swedish Heart"), the quest for her Russian heritage – she is the great-great-granddaughter of Leo Tolstoy – ("My Russian Soul"), a desire to pay an affectionate tribute to Herbie Hancock ("Letters To Herbie"), or to interpret great film songs ("Meet Me At The Movies"). These thematic threads give Viktoria Tolstoy a way of singing songs which is hers and hers alone. And her voice has something truly special and individual too: there might be a hint of melodrama, or perhaps a certain sadness which is nonetheless underpinned with joy, or happiness, yet with an urgent and dramatic undertone. This innate sense of how to establish an emotional connection also helps to explain why Tolstoy has become one of the most successful singers in jazz from Scandinavia.

Classic 80s Pop 3CD meeting in the huge amount of tracks on each day and the mood, and maybe the same attitudes and beliefs! Legs is a song performed by the band ZZ Top from their album Eliminator. The dance mix version of the song peaked at number thirteen on the dance charts. Although all three members of ZZ Top are credited with playing on the track, only Gibbons was actually present; engineer Terry Manning was responsible for all the musical parts save the lead guitar. Some Like It Hot is a song recorded by The Power Station.

Can you ever recapture lightning in a bottle? Pulp's eighth album—the band's first in 24 years—makes a strong case for it. Though they split up in 2002, there have been more than a few reunion shows, and staying out of the spotlight, it seems, was never really an option. "I was born to perform/ It's a calling/ I еxist to do this/ Shouting and pointing," frontman Jar vis Cocker sings on "Spike Island" (while name-checking a Mott the Hoople album, no less). Packed with punchy disco bass and comet-streak guitar—not to mention Cocker's signature yelps and exaggerated sighs, meeting at some Venn diagram of sexy, world-weary and awkward—it draws inspiration from British legend: the Stone Roses' infamous outdoor 1990 gig of the same name. That concert's taken on mythical status over the years, but in reality, Pulp guitarist Mark Webber has admitted, "it didn't sound very good, it was windy and the vibe wasn't there."

New England was an American rock band that was mainly active from 1978-1982. John Fannon, Jimmy Waldo, Gary Shea (both of pre- Alcatrazz) and Hirsh Gardner formed the band in the Boston area, discovered by legendary Kiss manager Bill Aucoin. Paul Stanley helped the band record and produce their debut album, along with famed producer Mike Stone, best known for his work with Queen and Asia.
