Frédéric Lodéon and pianist Daria Hovora, who met when studying in the Paris Conservatoire, formed a successful couple both on and off the stage. They recorded various beautiful chamber albums in the 1970s, never re-issued in CD or digital before, notably this florilegium of pieces by Robert Schumann transcribed for cello and piano.

"How did you design the program for this disk?The disk is made up most importantly of pieces that I particularly enjoyed performing in concert. But rather than making two recordings, one for Robert and the other dedicated to Clara, I imagined making both composers converse within the same universe. We are of course familiar with the hidden messages they constantly sent each other through their music and it seemed interesting to me to recreate an imaginary conversation between these two immense musicians. "

Robert Schumann’s piano music is invariably bound up with the dramatic events of his life. Schumann channelled both his love for Clara and his pianistic frustrations into his music, which was often composed with Clara in mind, both romantically and musically; she was an outstanding pianist and composer in her own right.
