Saxophonist and composer Ohad Talmor follows up his album Long Forms with the Ohad Talmor Newsreel Sextet (Intakt CD 341) – a trio recording with his closest musical friends in Brooklyn: guitarist Miles Okazaki and drummer Dan Weiss. Ohad Talmor is the very definition of a cosmopolitan artist, holding three passports – American, Swiss and Israeli – while being based in the polyglot borough of Brooklyn, New York.

It’s been six years since Sivan Talmor’s 2013 debut album named “לונה פארק” – the title comes from an amusement park in Tel Aviv. And she kept appearing here on beehype with her following releases, like fantastic 2016 album “Fire” and equally superb live record in 2017.

Ohad Talmor came to New York in 1995 to study music and since then made Brooklyn his home where he has been one of the "movers and shakers" of the creative jazz scene. On the ground floor of his Prospect Heights loft, he runs the performance space "Seeds".

The discovery of the music of Leadbelly was transformative for young Adam Nussbaum. The only child of artistic parents in Norwalk, Connecticut, Nussbaum was exposed to many recordings, from classical and folk to jazz and blues. It was the image of Huddie Ledbetter on the original Folkways 10-inch record covers that fascinated the five year old. The celebrated blues and folk musician's music seared itself into his ears, as it does in young listeners, informing the future drummer's musical approach for years to come, most explicitly on his new recording, "The Leadbelly Project".

At age 90 Lee Konitz is truly a living legend of Jazz. At an age when most people are sitting back enjoying the view from God's waiting room, Konitz is still active touring the world. Later this month Lee will be back in Europe for a number of concerts in the UK, Germany, Spain and France. Joining Lee on the tour will be German pianist Florian Weber together with long term Konitz compatriots, New York based bassist Jeremy Stratton And drummer George Schuller.

Full Trunk is an exciting, energetic and virtuoso band from Israel that consists 4 members (Gal Nisman – Guitar & singer, Ofer Vayner – Bass, Ariel Keshet – keyboards, Yotam Elazari Drums). The band combines Eastern beats with Western blues-rock sounds. The combination between their music and their stage charisma creates an unforgettable live performance every time.

Snark Horse is a book of highly-detailed one-bar compositions by pianist/composer Matt Mitchell and drummer/composer Kate Gentile -– audaciously presented across six discs – that are designed to incite inventive, multi-directional improvisation. It is also the name of a revolving cast of musicians – including Mitchell and Gentile – who have performed this music in various combinations since 2013.

The romantic dream of many aspiring jazz musicians is to sail into New York City, drawn by the magnetism of the metropolis, and to seek an apprenticeship amongst the heroes and legends of the music. It isn’t often that these dreams come true, but for saxophonist/clarinetist/composer Mike McGinnis they did in his friendship and collaboration, with jazz legends Art Lande and Steve Swallow, showcased on the trio’s Recurring Dream.
