Formed in the winter of 1968, Brainbox was a legendary dutch rock group that featured star guitarist Jan Akkerman and vocalist Kaz Lux within their ranks. The band's debut album featured such incredible work as Dark Rose, Summertime, Scarborough Fair and the epic 17 minute track Sea Of Delight. Inspired by British acts of the day, Brainbox were equal to the talent of groups such as Taste and Jethro Tull and their debut album secured a world wide release by EMI in 1969. Soon after the album appeared Jan Akkerman departed to join Focus, but Brianbox continued to record a host of classic singles and a second LP with drummer Pierre Van Der Linden also joining Focus. This Esoteric recordings re-mastered edition is the first ever UK CD release of the album and features eleven bonus tracks taken from the band single releases of 1969 and 1970.

A blip in the Byrds' discography that could easily be missed, as all of the songs from these pre-Mr. Tambourine Man sessions are also found on the much more widely available In the Beginning. Byrds fans really need to track this down, though, because six of the 11 cuts are actually entirely different versions than the ones that appear on In the Beginning, and in some cases the differences are substantial…

Hollies Sing Hollies was the group's somewhat self-conscious follow-up to Hollies Sing Dylan - in the U.S., it formed the bulk of the He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother LP, with that smash single (totally unlike anything else on the album) overshadowing the rest of the record. If the Hollies began to lose credibility as a frontline rock group, the blame must rest with this album. The songwriting is generally melodic and very pleasant, but little of it is particularly memorable, and the arrangements mostly have a light rock/pop feel to them, closer to Gary Puckett & the Union Gap than to the Beatles. There are one or two very good songs, including "Please Let Me Please," with crisp rhythm guitars and slashing lead parts as well as a catchy central melody and an even better chorus…

This great album has been originally released on Danish Parlophone label in 1969 and is usually considered as one of the best, late 60's rock records ever recorded in Scandinavia! This LP is best described as an early progressive rock effort with very electic mixture of blues, beat and heavy psychedelia - with superb and intensive guitar work throughout, some brass section phrases and solid drumming. Comparing their music to the bands like Cream, Taste, Love Sculpture, Cuby & The Blizzards and Beefeathers will definitely not be exaggerated. Unfortunately, it was the only title released under the Delta Blues Band name (apart from 1979 LP with one Billy Cross). This CD edition has been carefully remastered from the original, analogue source and sounds really great!

You've got to be a Johnny Cash fan to truly appreciate what's happening on the third volume in Legacy's Bootleg series Live Around the World. This double-disc collection contains 53 tracks culled from 23 years, 1956 to 1979. The heart of its performances are from the Newport Folk Festival in 1964; a show for the troops in Long Binh, Vietnam in 1969; for Richard Nixon at the White House in 1970, and at the Osteraker Prison in Sweden in 1972…

The Top 100 '60s Rock Albums represent the moment when popular music came of age. In the earliest part of the decade, bands were still regularly referencing earlier sounds and themes. By the middle, something powerful and distinct was happening, which is why the latter part of the '60s weighs so heavily on our list. A number of bands evolved alongside fast-emerging trends of blues rock, folk rock, psychedelia and hard rock, adding new complexities to the music even as the songs themselves became more topical. If there's a thread running through the Top 100 '60s Rock Albums and this period of intense change, it has to do with the forward-thinking artists who managed to echo and, in some cases, advance the zeitgeist. Along the way, legends were made.

This obscure power trio is thought to have come from Boston, where they supported the Velvet Underground in 1969, the same year their sole LP appeared. An inspired blend of tough electric blues (Leavin' Trunk , Antique Locomotives), commercial songs with distinctive hooks (What Of I?, Pourscha Poe) and more overtly acid-influenced material (David's Rush, Yellow Wall), it's an overlooked psychedelic gem that deserves far wider recognition.
