Jerrald "Jerry" Goldsmith (1929-2004) was one of the most important composers that worked for the movie system in Hollywood. Pupil of Mario Castelnuovo Tedesco, Jacob Gimpel and Miklos Rozsa, Goldsmith began working on radio and television in the 1950s and wrote his first complete score in 1957 for the oscure movie Black Patch. His last scores were the rejected one for Timeline (2003) and for Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003). He won an Oscar for The Omen (1976). Among others, he wrote the music for Planet of the Apes (1968), Patton (1970), Papillon (1973), Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), Alien (1979), First Blood (1982), Gremlins (1984), Legend (1985), Lionheart (1987), Total Recall (1990), Basic Instinct (1992), First Knight (1995) and Hollow Man (2000).

Exciting, colorful and gigantic score for the fantasy film with special effects by Ray Harryhausen. Lengthy, spectacular re-recording features all of the music for Herrmann's various outlandish orchestral requirements, such as the huge brass section (including four tubas!) for the giant bronze statue Talos and multiple harps plus expanded woodwinds for the flying Harpies. Prepared from Herrmann's own original manuscripts and magnificently recorded in stunning detail. Bruce Broughton conducts the Sinfonia Of London.

As jazz became a popular element of film scores during the 1960s and 1970s, jazzman turned film composer Lalo Schifrin rose to prominence by penning notable jazz-inflected scores for films such as Bullitt and Dirty Harry. In 1973, he tackled a new challenge by writing the score for Enter the Dragon, an ambitious martial arts film that was the American debut of cult legend Bruce Lee. The resulting score combined Schifrin's penchant for adding jazz and funk elements to the traditional film scoring style with elements of traditional Chinese music, giving the whole combination a new, ethnic flavor.

Few blockbusters can claim to be as influential as The Matrix (1999), written and directed by the Wachowskis. From its super high-concept that has wormed its way into the public’s imagination (what if we’re all just living in a computer simulation?), to Keanu Reeves’ iconic hero Neo, to the brilliant, jaw-dropping and story-based visual effects, The Matrix delivered on all fronts. Its three films grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide, and a fourth is on the way.

The Bourne Identity (2002) revitalized the action genre in thrilling, consequential fashion. Matt Damon’s “Jason Bourne”—an alias for a man with no memory, but a ferocious set of fighting skills—upped the ante for gritty, imaginative, pulse-pounding action as well as emotional depth and sophistication, leading to a hugely successful franchise. The Bourne Identity was directed by Doug Liman, whose background in indie film (Swingers, Go) made him the perfect filmmaker to reinvent the genre. For the score, Liman found a willing partner in John Powell, who had started his career working for Hans Zimmer. But Powell, too, wanted to try something different from his previous action films (Face/Off).

The Donnas are an American all-female rock band from Palo Alto, California. They draw inspiration from The Ramones, The Runaways, AC/DC, Bachman–Turner Overdrive and Kiss. Rolling Stone has stated that "the Donnas offer a guileless take on adolescent alienation; they traffic in kicks, not catharsis, fun rather than rage". Allmusic.com has stated that the band offers "a good old-fashioned Rock & Roll party". After gathering a cult following in the punk scene since their 1993 debut, the band achieved major label commercial success in the early 2000s and afterward.
