Due to the complexity, and heterogeneity of the smart grid and the high volume of information to be processed, artificial intelligence techniques and computational intelligence appear to be some of the enabling technologies for its future development and success. The theme of the book is “Making pathway for the grid of future” with the emphasis on trends in Smart Grid, renewable interconnection issues, planning-operation-control and reliability of grid, real time monitoring and protection, market, distributed generation and power distribution issues, power electronics applications, computer-IT and signal processing applications, power apparatus, power engineering education and industry-institute collaboration. The primary objective of the book is to review the current state of the art of the most relevant artificial intelligence techniques applied to the different issues that arise in the smart grid development.

The opening track on the rebel chamber music ensemble Anti-Social Music's debut album Sings the Great American Songbook (2005) was "Fracture II," a composition by cellist Pat Muchmore. The group's second release turns out to be entirely devoted to that composer's music. It's a good thing too, for Muchmore's soundworld requires some time to get into and fully explore.

A Revolution In Sound looks at the influence of modern classical music, the avant-garde and free jazz on pop and pop culture, during the second half of the twentieth century. In the mid-1960s, as pop music acquired a greater sophistication and maturity, artists began to make more ambitious musical and conceptual statements. In the search for new ideas, pop began to find inspiration along the spectrum of classical music – from Stockhausen to Sibelius – and from artists who inhabited the outer reaches of jazz, drawing even on the classical music of Northern India with its roots in the antique past.

Evolution of Silicon Sensor Technology in Particle Physics: Basics and Applications, Third Edition by Frank Hartmann
English | EPUB (True) | 2024 | 477 Pages | ISBN : 3031597192 | 228.6 MB

This third edition of a well-received monograph provides a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art of detectors and their evolution. In addition to the silicon sensor technology described in the second edition, the book covers the following new topics: precise timing detectors (3D sensors and sensors with intrinsic gain layers), passive CMOS sensors, new developments in HV-CMOS sensors, and sparking in strip and pixel detectors. The chapter on the HL-LHC CMS upgrades has been updated, and the historical overview has been enriched with a section on the UA2 SPD pad detector system.

In many ways the missing link between Forbidden Planet and 2001: A Space Odyssey (and Star Trek), Icarus XB-1 is a fascinating sci-fi curio. For decades this was only available to English-speaking viewers in the form of Voyage to the End of the Universe, one of American International Pictures’ notorious hatchet jobs, heavily cut, dubbed (and partially retranslated) into English and with a nonsensical new ending that junks one of the film’s main themes in favour of a crass Planet of the Apes-style shock twist. (The fact that it predated that film by four or five years is the only mitigating factor, but that won’t cut much ice with today’s audiences).
