The world's most revered pianos are based on the award-winning and extremely powerful Native Instruments sampling engine, guaranteeing a completely realistic and reliable reproduction of the originals. The keys, including the full sustain and release phases, were sampled at ten different velocities. A specially designed recording technique ensured that the different velocities remained uniform throughout the recording process, delivering exceptionally linear results. High-end microphones and audio equipment delivered the best possible quality of recorded material while the Layer Morphing Technology generates a seamless dynamic gradient across the different velocity layers.

An exciting release of contemporary British repertoire from The Berlin Oboe Quartet features Colin Matthews’ 1st and 2nd Oboe Quartets in the year of his 70th birthday. Framed by classics of the oboe quartet repertoire, the Phantasy Op. 2 by Benjamin Britten and the Quartet for oboe and string trio by Richard Rodney Bennett, the CD also presents the first recording of Helen Grime’s Oboe Quartet, written in 2011. The Berlin Oboe Quartet have always been inspired in their choice of repertoire by Benjamin Britten’s masterful Phantasy. Early on in their concert career they took the decision to make British oboe quartets central to their concert programming and took the Phantasy as their starting point.

Vladimir Horowitz possessed freakishly superb technical equipment, plus inspiration and a mercurial imagination that caused him to never play the same work twice in the same way. There has been no greater writer of pianistic works in the history of the instrument. There was never a better ear for piano color, and his performances usually succeeded in giving a work "the stamp of approval" causing his contemporaries to begin programming works he chose to champion. The was, and is, nobody who can imitate Horowitz, for his genius was truly a never ending source of inspiration.

Drummer Joe Dodge left the Dave Brubeck quartet in 1956 to spend more time with his wife and children. He was replaced by Joe Morello. Bassist Norman Bates also left the group the following year for the comforts of home and family. Brubeck chose Eugene Wright to take his place on bass. With Morello and Wright in the fold, the "Classic Quartet" was born. Although Brubeck and Desmond played with several musicians over the years, this group of Brubeck, Desmond, Wright and Morello would become the most famous of Brubeck's bands. The US State Department hired them for this "goodwill" tour of Europe including dates in England, Scotland, Germany, Denmark,Belgium, Holland, Turkey, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq. This long unavailable concert appears here in its entirety for the first time ever - including two previously unissued tracks 'The Duke' and 'One Moment Worth Years'.

Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a newly remastered edition of 'Poland-The Warsaw Concert' by Tangerine Dream. On the 10th December 1983, Edgar Froese, Chris Franke and Johannes Schmoelling performed a legendary concert in the Ice Stadium in Warsaw - a unique event, given the political situation in Poland at the time. The resulting 'live' album was issued as a double LP set on the Jive Electro label the following year to great acclaim. Of all the subsequent CD releases of the album, only two early editions, released in the USA & Germany, featured the full un-edited version of the original double LP. This newly remastered Edition fully restores the Entire Unedited Double LP Version to Compact Disc and includes a Lavishly Illustrated Deluxe Booklet with New Essay.

Claudio Abbado (1933-2014) was one of the outstanding personalities in the history of the Berliner Philharmoniker. He made his debut with the orchestra in 1966 and was their chief conductor from 1990 to 2002. In May 2013, their unique partnership ended with Claudio Abbado's last concert with the orchestra – a “triumph”, in the words of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. The programme included two of the most important works of musical Romanticism: Hector Berlioz's visionary Symphonie fantastique and Felix Mendelssohn's magical, shimmering music for A Midsummer Night's Dream. Audio and video recordings of this memorable evening are now being released in a hardcover luxury edition. The bonus material includes a historical documentary about Abbado's first year as chief conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker. In addition to extensive texts, the booklet contains numerous photos, some of which have never been published before.

After Iveta Apkalna released her album 'Light and Dark' - the world premiere recording of the organ of the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie - at Berlin Classics in autumn 2018, her paths led her to the other side of the world for her new album 'Widor & Vierne'. The first single 'Sheep May Safely Graze' offers a glimpse of this exciting journey.Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan is not only Asia's largest cultural centre, but also the largest concert organ in Asia. In the concert hall of the 'National Kaohsiung Center of the Arts (Weiwuying)' she expands the organ of the Bonn-based organ builder Klais and directly plays a repertoire that is close to her heart: Charles-Marie Widor's 5th Organ Symphony and the 3rd Organ Symphony by Louis Vierne. As a foretaste of these two classics of symphonic organ music, she publishes the forefather of organ music, Johann Sebastian Bach, and an arrangement of the famous aria 'Sheep May Safely Graze' from the Jagdkantate, BWV 208.The first single 'Sheep May Safely Graze' by Iveta Apkalna is now available as download or at the streaming service of your choice!
