The recording industry of the 20th century saw stars become legends and albums become icons of popular culture. Completed in a total of only four days and released in January 1956, Glenn Gould s début recording of Bach s Goldberg Variations is without doubt one of the most significant and successful classical recordings in the history of the gramophone record.

Forty years ago, on September 2, 1982 – the year of Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Steven Spielberg’s E.T. – Glenn Gould’s legendary second recording of the Goldberg Variations closed a circle that his revolutionary 1956 recording of Bach’s masterpiece had opened. While his first recording is the exuberant, fast-paced work of a 22-year-old pianistic prodigy, his second is the measured, richly detailed interpretation of an experienced studio artist. Just five weeks later, the Canadian pianist died unexpectedly, leaving the world a masterpiece of recording art that – awarded two GRAMMYs – is still one of the most listened to classical albums worldwide.

And among those 24 tracks are a full five unreleased songs and nine unreleased alternate versions, featuring three previously unheard versions of the big hit “The Boy from New York City” including an a cappella demo! Notes by James Moniz tell the Ad-Libs story with help from copious quotes from group member Norman Donegan, while Manhattan Transfer member Tim Hauser pens an introduction. Another incredible find from the Red Bird / Blue Cat vaults!

The short-lived Houston, Texas late-'60s psych band Moving Sidewalks are generally best known as one of the first bands of Billy Gibbons, who went on to fame in biker-blues arena rockers ZZ Top. In their day, Moving Sidewalks recorded their sole LP, Flash, as well as a few singles of psychedelic blues-rock, before evaporating into garage rock history and seeing Gibbons off to radically different prospects. The Complete Moving Sidewalks collects all known studio work by the band as well as demos and unreleased tracks from the Coachmen, the Gibbons-fronted predecessor that came just before Moving Sidewalks. As an album, Flash is very much a product of its time. Gibbons' vocals, guitar playing, and songwriting are all under a heavy Hendrix influence, borrowing the stoned blues side of Jimi's nonchalant playing and electric hippie persona.

The title is a bit of a misnomer; this double CD only includes the complete sessions that the Animals recorded with producer Mickie Most in 1964 and 1965. The 40 songs capture the band at their peak, including most of their best and biggest hits: "House of the Rising Sun," "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," "Bring It on Home to Me," "We Gotta Get Out of This Place," "I'm Crying," "It's My Life," and "Boom Boom." Most of the rest of the tunes don't match the excellence of these smashes, though they're solid. The great majority of them are covers of vintage R&B/rock tunes by Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, and the like, which aren't quite as durable as reinterpretations from the same era by the Stones and Yardbirds.

ncludes the original versions remastered, all the collectible 7”s, and several unreleased tunes! This is the only complete album of recordings from one of the funkiest bands of all time. This 9-member group from Detroit, is widely considered one of the funkiest bands of all time. This album compiles their highly collectible Detroit gritty funk and also unreleased versions of their known and unreleased tunes, including warm-up sessions and alternate takes found in the band leaders basement. To say these young musicians were proficient beyond their years would be an understatement. At the time this album was recorded, the oldest member was 17 year-old bandleader Clarence Bennett; guitarist Mark Justice was just 15. Nonetheless, their talent and musical maturity earned them the praise and respect of more widely recognized artists and groups (including the Temptations, O'Jays, Chi-Lites, and Stevie Wonder). The Propositions were influenced by many bands from the early 1970's, including Funkadelic, Earth, Wind & Fire, Sly Stone and local predecessors the Fabulous Counts. However, they were determined to create their own unique style. They achieved this by taking a dedicated instrumental direction and abandoning the vocalization that was present on their first two singles. Their final result, a tasty combination of funky drums, wah-wah guitar, and a full horn section, was certainly worth the effort. Now for the first time we can all enjoy the entire collection of the Propositions! (The "Africana" single version is found on the Luv n' Haight compilation Deja Vu).

These historic recordings have every claim to be called the first British folk-rock album. 'All our own work' , comprising all original material, was recorded in Copenhagen in July 1967. Fairport Convention recorded their first album in November 1967 with Judy Dyble as their female singer; they did not start recording with Sandy Denny until June 1968. 'All our own work' has been shrouded in mystery for years. The sleeve-notes on the original release mistakenly claimed that the album was recorded in 1968. It was not released until 1973, to cash in on the Top Ten successes of Strawbs, and sold 65,000 copies. This new release dispels the myths. The booklet contains extracts from Dave Cousins diary with the full time-line; the original black and white sleeve photograph has been re-coloured; there are previously unheard songs. 'All our own work' contains the first recording of Sandy Denny's immortal 'Who knows where the time goes?' , which Judy Collins subsequently used as the title track of her 1968 album after hearing All our own work ! The first full CD release of the first British folk-rock album the complete sessions, remastered. 24 tracks - the original album, out-takes and demos plus three previously unreleased demos.

First-ever complete anthology of teenage American band who recorded an unreleased, heavily Beatles-influenced album at Abbey Road in 1969. Includes the full album, outtakes, demos, alternative versions, solo recordings and no less than eleven previously unissued tracks. After a locally-recorded demo attracted the interest of Capitol Records, The Aerovons – Beatles-obsessed teenagers from St. Louis, Missouri - persuaded the company to let them approach EMI with a view to recording at Abbey Road. Three separate visits to England followed, with an impressed EMI overseeing an Aerovons album, recorded March-June 1969 in between the group's trips to Carnaby Street and starstruck encounters with various Beatles and Hollies members.
