The Deep Six

After a string of limited 7" vinyl singles THE DEEP SIX return with a second album of pure 60s Mod coolness. Featuring the song-writing skills of Mark McGounden of the highly regarded MAKIN 'TIME and UPPER FIFTH and Paul Hooper-Keeley from The Threads the album is jam-packed with nods to The Hollies, Beatles, Who and Small Faces whilst keeping it fresh enough to be a powerhouse live.

Imagine the Mamas & the Papas without the arranging prowess of John Phillips or the powerful voice of Cass Elliot and you get a pretty good idea of what the Deep Six sounded like. During their brief existence, they released one self-titled LP in 1966 on Liberty. Over three decades later, the U.K.-based Rev Ola label not only reissued that rare collector's item, but also included five non-LP cuts, rare photos, and excellent liner notes. The light, if somewhat generic, folk-rock arrangements and close harmonizing are pleasant enough on the majority of tracks; versions of "A Groovy Kind of Love," "Where Were You When I Needed You," and "Solitary Man" fit the band's smoothness to a tee.

The Deep Freeze Mice were an English New Wave band that were active between 1979 and 1989. They were based in Leicester, and consisted of the core members Alan Jenkins (guitars and singing), Sherree Lawrence (organ and other keyboards), and Mick Bunnage (bass guitar). The band had two different drummers over the years: Graham Summers and Pete Gregory.

This unique CD gives just a hint of the music and careers of Deep Purple members over some thirty years of pop and rock. From dodgy Eddie Cochran tribute's by Heinz, to KLF'S chart topping what time is love, members of Deep Purple have been everywhere, done just about everything. And, from the R&B blast of The Artwoods, to the hi-tec metal of Gillan's toolbox, the fans have followed them.
