THE DEVIANTS - Ptooff! / Disposable (2006 UK 21-track CD album, compiling the 1st 2 LPs from the legendary Deviants, 'Ptooff!' and 'Disposable', originally released in 1967 and 1968 respectively - The Deviants were something like the British equivalent to the Fugs, with touches of the Mothers of Invention and the British R&B-based rock of the Yardbirds and Pretty Things; their simplistic riffing anticipated acts like the Stooges for an inspired collision of punk attitude and psychedelic eclecticism!

Talk today about Britain's psychedelic psyxties, and it's the light whimsy of Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd, the gentle introspection of the village green Kinks, Sgt. Pepper, and "My White Bicycle" which hog the headlines. People have forgotten there was an underbelly as well, a seething mass of discontent and rancor which would eventually produce the likes of Hawkwind, the Pink Fairies, and the Edgar Broughton Band. It was a damned sight more heartfelt, too, but the more some fete the lite-psych practitioners of the modern age, the further their reality will recede. Fronted by journalist/author/wild child Mick Farren, the Deviants spawned that reality. Over the years, three ex-members would become Pink Fairies; for subsequent reunions, sundry ex-Fairies would become honorary Deviants…

Having played with Tomorrow, the Pretty Things and the Pink Fairies, Twink should need no introduction to fans of underground rock. Following the ecstatic reception to our release of his legendary 1969 album THINK PINK earlier this year, Sunbeam is delighted to announce the forthcoming release of the mind-expanding YOU REACHED FOR THE STARS, which finds him collaborating with highly-regarded Italian psychedelic outfit the Technicolour Dream. Recorded in Rome and mastered at Abbey Road this summer, it comes complete with eight superb bonus tracks, and is sure to delight all lovers of psychedelic rock.

Like long hair man - as the man said. From the mystic swirls of time, or the 60s, to put it another way, came the Fairies, who begat the Pink Fairies and many happy hours of psychedelic bliss. To get the chronology right, the 'Live At The Roundhouse' album first came out on Big Beat in 1982, but was originally recorded at the famous engine shed in July 1975. Then in 1978 drummer Twink cut a 12" E.P. with some friends, which came out on Chiswick Records and produced the wonderfully mixed genre "Psychedelic Punkeroo". Finally a re-formed Pink Fairies came out with 'Previously Unreleased' in '84.They're all here, Larry Wallis, Duncan 'Sandy' Sanderson, Paul Rudolph, Russell Hunter, Twink and even half a song from Mick Farren. I always thought "Uncle Harry's Last Freakout" just about summed it up, but then 15 years of the summers of love and it's all back with us.

Very good Pleasure Island 1996 Pink Fairies reunion effort, this title was released by drummer Twink's own label, Twink Records of a limited edition of 1,000 copies. So, obviously 'Pleasure Island' is often hard to find. Don't think it's ever been reissued after that. Looks like 'Pleasure…' has just just two players, of Twink-drums and Paul Rudolph-bass&vocalist. Couldn't tell you if anyone else appeared on this CD or not. 'Pleasure…' is some fine psych/raw punk with an edge to it. "As Above,So Below" is basic well played '70's rock and roll revived. I found "Man With A Golden Gun" to be somewhat refreshing and "Jungle Drums" shows you, just what Twink is truly capable of. For a true mind-blower,put on the headphones to fully experience the 32-minute "Cargoe In Jamaica".

What a Bunch of Sweeties is a 1972 album by the UK underground group Pink Fairies. Twink had left the band before the recording of this album. Former The Move guitarist Trevor Burton occasionally joined the band for gigs and contributes to a couple of tracks, otherwise the band is the same line up stranded in San Francisco as The Deviants in '69 following the loss of vocalist Mick Farren.

"Never Never Land" is a 1971 album by the UK underground group Pink Fairies. The group were formed when the three musicians from The Deviants, having sacked their singer and leader Mick Farren, returned from a disastrous tour of the West Coast of North America and hooked up with Twink. These musicians had previously collaborated on Twink's Think Pink prior to the tour, and during the tour Twink, Farren and Steve Peregrin Took had used The Pink Fairies Motorcycle Club and All-Star Rock and Roll Band name, taken from a story written by Jamie Mandelkau, as an umbrella for their activities, including one gig in Manchester.

"Kings Of Oblivion" is a 1973 album by the UK underground group Pink Fairies. Paul Rudolph had quit the group on the release of What a Bunch of Sweeties, his replacement being Mick Wayne. The album was named after a line from a David Bowie track titled The Bewlay Brothers. The cover, by Edward Barker, parodied the popular flying ducks ornaments of the time but with flying pigs instead, pigs having become an ident for the band.
