Created under the Fantasy umbrella in 1982, at the advent of the then-new compact disc format, Original Jazz Classics has been a tremendously successful program of CD reissues. Its premise was simple: to present memorable jazz albums with original covers and notes, which had been unavailable for years. The vaults of the Fantasy-affiliated labels Prestige, Riverside, Contemporary, Galaxy, Milestone, Debut, Jazzland, and Pablo hold some of the most important jazz ever recorded. Drawing on this wealth of material, Original Jazz Classics grew to over 1,000 titles. In 2010 Concord Music Group launched a new series of reissues extending the popular Original Jazz Classics (aka OJC) brand. Already at more than 30 volumes, the Original Jazz Classics Remasters is a series of deluxe reissues of all-time classic jazz albums, featuring 24-bit remastering from the original analog master tapes for vastly improved sound quality, newly written liner notes by respected jazz historians, and often previously-unreleased tracks from the original recording sessions.

Senri Kawaguchi was born in Aichi, Japan in 1997. She started playing drums at the age of 5. Senri studied under Kozo Suganuma who is known as ”TE-KA-ZU-OH”, from the age of 8. Her drumming is garnering attention around the world and her videos on Youtube have gathered over 39 billion views. She was featured in Drummerworld.com as one of the world’s Top 500 drummers. In 2013 she released her first album, A LA MODE, when she was just 16 years old and has released four albums since including her major label album, CIDER~Hard & Sweet, recorded in Los Angeles.

In the vein of many a smooth West Coast jazz outing, this 1958 disc finds original cool stylist Getz paired with vibraphonist Cal Tjader on a very enjoyable selection of jazz standards and Tjader originals. The lineup includes pianist Vince Guaraldi, guitarist Eddie Duran, bassist Scott La Faro, and drummer Billy Higgins (this was one of the earliest record dates for either La Faro or Higgins, both of whom were playing with Getz at San Francisco's Black Hawk in between recording sessions). Guaraldi's spry "Ginza Samba" kicks thing off with nimble and imaginative statements by all the soloists. Tjader's swinging originals "Crow's Nest" and "Big Bear" provide prime solo vehicles as well, while his lovely waltz number "Liz-Anne" adds some nice contrast to the set, eliciting one of Getz's best solos in the process…

STAN GETZ WITH CAL TJADER is a classic, not only because it pairs the renowned tenor player (Getz) with the great vibraphonist (Tjader), but because the additional personnel on the session make it something of an all-star date. Drummer Billy Higgins, still some time away from his work on the groundbreaking experiments of Ornette Coleman, appears here on one of his first sessions. Bassist Scott LaFaro, who would achieve fame as a member of Bill Evans's legendary trio, also makes an early appearance. Pianist Vince Guaraldi, a leader and composer in his own right (his "Ginza Samba" is one of the highlights on the set), sits in, as does fleet-fingered guitarist Eddie Duran. A suitable title for both Getz and Tjader fans.
