The Glenn Branca

Systems Neutralizers would like to announce The Third Ascension, the first release from avant guard composer Glenn Branca since his death in 2018. This is a return to the 4-guitar, bass and drums format of his legendary 1981 release The Ascension as well as 2010's The Ascension: The Sequel. The recording is a live performance by The Glenn Branca Ensemble at NYC's The Kitchen in 2016.

Horse Lords make music for the liberation of mind and body. Propulsive in a way that inspires movement and that’s felt in the gut, the Baltimore quartet’s new album The Common Task points to a utopian, modernist ideal. The group’s use of algorithmic composition techniques, microtonal harmonies, and plentifully deployed polyrhythm aren’t secondary to the music’s danceability and rhapsodic swirl, but integral to the party itself.

Guitarist James Blood Ulmer, whose "harmolodic" approach has given him a reputation as one of the most radically inventive artists on the jazz scene today, leads this eclectic ensemble through a set that combines elements of rock, blues, funk and free jazz. Bassist Amin Ali and drummer Cornell W. Rochester complete the regular cast, while saxophonists Arthur Blythe, Sam Rivers and Hamiet Bluiett all make guest appearances.

For over a decade, the Bang on a Can All-Stars have been internationally known for their radically and accessibly energetic approach to modern music-making. Whether reinterpreting works by well-known figures such as Brian Eno's Music for Airports or Terry Riley's In C, or commissioning new works from avant composers such as Arnold Dreyblatt or Toby Twining, they perform with a comprehensive depth that makes these works their own.

Neurosis marks 30 years with Fires Within Fires, their 11th album. It's uncharacteristically economical, clocking in at a mere 40 minutes, their shortest since 1992's Souls at Zero. Engineered by Steve Albini (their sixth collaboration in a row), it takes stock of the places Neurosis has been since leaving behind their post-hardcore roots to pioneer the strange world of "post-metal." Opener "Bending Light" commences with a slow, doomy bassline and a guitar vamp that directly references Pink Floyd's "Nile Song" - specifically the Necros' mid-'80s cover - but uncouples itself to wander more jagged atmospheric terrain with sparse, bluesy guitar lines and darkly hued sonic effects from keyboardist Noah Landis…

Daydream Nation is the fifth studio album by American alternative rock band Sonic Youth. The band recorded the album between July and August 1988 at Greene St. Recording in New York City, and it was released in October by Enigma Records as a double album. Daydream Nation was the group's last record before signing to a major label. Daydream Nation has since been widely considered to be Sonic Youth's greatest work, and an influence on the alternative and indie rock genres. It was chosen by the Library of Congress to be preserved in the National Recording Registry in 2005.
