Originally issued by Creole Records in 1978; the In Crowd's best-selling 'His Majesty Is Coming' album finally receives its due respect with this long-overdue reissue. Augmented by a number of the group's non-album recordings from the period; plus Phil Callender's most popular late seventies solo material; this is in essence a 'best of'; which is truly an essential collection for any self-respecting fan of Roots Reggae.

Ramsey Lewis staked his claim to fame with The In Crowd, the instrumental version of Dobie Gray's Top 40 hit. He also was one of the first soul-jazz icons of the mid-'60s, based on the strength of the sales of this recording, done over three days during a club date at the Bohemian Caverns in Washington, DC.

He also was one of the first soul jazz icons of the mid-'60s, based on the strength of the sales of this recording, done over three days during a club date at the Bohemian Caverns in Washington, D.C. What is not readily acknowledged over the years is that bassist Eldee Young is really the star of the show. He's the one who gets the crowd revved up with his vocalizing in tandem with the notes he is playing. It's on his Ray Charles-like take on "Tennessee Waltz" and a similar treatment of Gale Garnett's minor pop hit "You Been Talkin' 'Bout Me Baby" that gets the patrons off. Of course the quintessential hip shakin' introductory title track gets the groove in motion, but it's Young that lights the fuse…

The In Crowd is the last of the three albums that came out of the legendary Christmas sessions at The Misty, a Tokyo jazz club, which took place in December 1974. The Three Blind Mice producer Takeshi "Tee" Fujii wanted to record Yamamoto before he left for the U.S. to study at Berklee School of Music, and almost all of the performances were so good that he decided to release three LPs instead of one that was originally planned.

Originally released on Columbia, these two Percy Faith albums have been reissued for the first time on CD by Collectables. Zeroing in on two distinct mid-'60s music genres, Bim! Bam!! Boom!!! features an emphasis on Latin American dance rhythms, creating what the original liner notes boast as "a tropic holiday," while Theme From the "In" Crowd contains pop hits of the time, with compositions by Lennon & McCartney, Bacharach & David, and the theme to "Thunderball." Though not an essential collection by a long shot, this disc will provide kitschy moments for your next cocktail party.

As Tidepool begins his epic destruction of the United States, a group of young heroes takes the scene by storm — with their cameramen in place to get their good sides on film! From the pages of Critter, The In Crowd mixes the fun of superheroes with the ridiculousness of the reality TV craze. They’ve got great hair, great bodies, and great power. But great responsibility? Not so much!

This is the record that put the legendary Ramsey Lewis on the map. Lewis is known as an incredible stylist on piano, comfortably adapting almost any kind of music into his own jazz fusion vision. Film scores, pop, light classical hall fit comfortably into his music, and this album is an excellent example of his vision. But, it's not only Lewis alone. His absolutely fabulous rhythm section of Red Holt (drums) and Eldee Young on (bass/cello) frame all of Ramsey's performances with funk and grace and a superior forward momentum. Aside from the groovin' hit "The in Crowd," the album contains fantastic readings of Duke Ellington's "Come Sunday" and the "Love Theme From Spartacus." This album is one of the places where Afro and funk-jazz started, and aside from it's historical significance, it's a stone groove.

A good compilation of music featuring R&B, popcorn and northern soul. The highlights for me: A couple of great tracks from Robert Parker - "Barefootin'" & "Let's go baby". A brilliant version of Stevie Wonder's "Uptight" by Jackie Wilson. Little Hank's fantastic track "Mr. Bang Bang man". One or two strong tracks that were new to me - "That other place" by Wade Flemons and "Just ain't no love" by Barbara Acklin. Oh and of course "Every beat of my heart" by The Du-ettes. The less good bits: A few too many instrumental tracks for my liking. 2 or 3 tracks that always seem to feature on this type of compilation. I've probably got multiple copies of "I spy (for the FBI)" - Jamo Thomas and "It's getting mighty crowded" - Betty Everett!
