Gabriel Byrne explores the life, works and passions of George Bernard Shaw, a giant of world literature, and - like Byrne - an emigrant Irishman with the outsider's ability to observe, needle and puncture. With Ireland in his heart, he made England his home and London his stage. His insight was ageless - his ideas still resonate almost 70 years after his death. He is one of only two people to have ever been awarded both the Nobel Prize for Literature and an Oscar. Gabriel Byrne sees Shaw as a revolutionary - a literary anarchist.

An American with a shady past, John Gilmore and an Irishman without a conscience, Robert Emmett Donovan, are in search of hidden gold secreted in an old mosque by desert people during the Montgomery-Rommel fighting. Gilmore, a partner with Donovan in a bistro, learns of the gold from Shelby and the two plan to get it, but Donovan learns of it and, despite the arrival of his daughter, Aileen, who he has not seen since her childhood, joins Gilmore and Shelby. A jeep they steal puts Inspector Levering on their trail and he sets out after them, with Aileen, in a plane.

An Irishman sets out to become famous as a singer on the radio. Due to a mix up he is instead entered as a contestant on a quiz show. He causes mayhem in the studio and the publicity attracts the attention of an agent who thinks he can help.
