Sounds of the Seventies was a 38-volume series issued by Time-Life during the late 1980s and early-to-mid 1990s, spotlighting pop music of the 1970s. Much like Time-Life's other series chronicling popular music, volumes in the "Sounds of the Seventies" series covered a specific time period, including individual years in some volumes, and different parts of the decade (for instance, the early 1970s) in others; in addition, some volumes covered specific trends, such as music popular on album-oriented rock stations on the FM band. Each volume was issued on either compact disc, cassette or (with volumes issued prior to 1991) vinyl record.

VA - Classic Motown (2016)
Label: Universal Music | MP3 320 kbps CBR | 183:11 min | 448 mb
Soul, Funk, RnB

Compiled from both Warner and Universal Music’s extensive catalogues these 3CD collections of repertoire feature the most iconic songs from the biggest names across the genres. Believe that one style of music which touches most people is motown and soul, and this new entry in Universal Music’s highly successful Classic compilation series features some of the biggest hits from the greatest names of the genre. There is the occasional filler, and with 59 tracks, there was almost always going to be a little bit of that, but really, there isn't a track which stands out as being wrongly included on here. Like all good compilations, Classic Motown was a good way for me to be able to enjoy the classics, hear the lesser-known stuff, and become equated with some music which was completely new to me.

Michael Bolton had an extensive (though not very successful) career under his real name, Michael Bolotin, before emerging in the mid-'80s as a major soft rock balladeer. He first turned up on RCA Records in the mid-'70s, singing cover tunes and his own blue-eyed soul songs in a gruff, Joe Cocker-like voice. Neither record buyers nor critics were much interested by the result. He then became the lead singer of Blackjack, a heavy metal band that made two albums for Polydor before splitting up in the early '80s. Looking to relaunch his career, he changed his name to Michael Bolton and signed to Columbia Records as a solo artist in 1983.
