Although the Stones had achieved massive popularity, Oldham decided to push Jagger and Richards into composing their own songs, since they – and his publishing company – would receive more money that away. In September 1973 a unique and mystical patch of Southern California was the site of a heroin overdose, a corpse-napping and a subsequent well-intended, but badly botched, cremation. The deceased was alt-country patron saint/ex-Byrd and Burrito Brother/friend of Keith Richards: Gram Parsons. Just as the Rolling Stones were initially inspired by the likes of Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley and Solomon Burke, there would be a period in the early 1970’s where Parsons would occupy Keith’s attention and briefly influence the World’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band.

The Lost Sessions Vol. 2 is the second (obviously) Rolling Stones outtakes on Empress Valley. Similar to the first volume the material here is not collated in any strict fashion but rather takes bits and pieces from various sessions. The subtitle of this release is The Auction Reel since this is the tape that was auctioned at Sotheby’s several years ago. The tracks here are all in excellent quality and present some interesting insights…

Exile on Main St. is the 10th British and 12th American studio album by the English rock band the Rolling Stones, released on 12 May 1972 by Rolling Stones Records. Recording began in 1969 in England during sessions for Sticky Fingers and continued in mid-1971 at a rented villa in the South of France named Nellcôte while the band lived abroad as tax exiles. A collage of various images, the album's artwork, according to frontman Mick Jagger, reflects the Rolling Stones as "runaway outlaws using the blues as its weapon against the world", showcasing "feeling of joyful isolation, grinning in the face of a scary and unknown future".

Exile on Main St. is a studio album by English rock band the Rolling Stones. It was first released as a double album on May 12, 1972 by Rolling Stones Records and was the band's tenth studio album released in the United Kingdom. The tracks were recorded in 1969 and 1970 at Olympic Studios and Jagger's Stargroves country house in England during sessions for Sticky Fingers, and in the summer of 1971 at a rented villa named Nellcôte in the south of France. Guitarist Keith Richards had rented the villa to live in while the band lived abroad as tax exiles.
