Hush Point is proud to announce Blues and Reds (October 14th / Sunnyside), the follow up to the Brooklyn quartet’s acclaimed 2013 self-titled debut, named by the New Yorker as “among the most substantial jazz albums of the year” and described as “…surprising music, much of it a kind of x-rayed blues” (The New York Times).

Acclaimed singer Hilary Gardner grew up in Wasilla, Alaska infatuated with New York City. In 2010, Hilary was chosen by the Frank Sinatra estate to appear as the live, onstage singer in Tony-award winner Twyla Tharp’s "Come Fly Away". Backed by a 19-piece big band, Hilary sang solos and duets with Frank Sinatra in a performance hailed by critics as “wonderful” (Huffington Post), “elegant” (USA Today), and “terrific” (New York Observer). Her solo recording debut "The Great City" is part love letter, part lament to New York and the big dreams it represents. The album has garnered effusive praise from New York’s jazz community, including Will Friedwald (Wall St. Journal) and Terry Teachout (Arts Journal, Wall St. Journal).

The new release, Bahamas Is Afie, is the first self-produced album from the Ontario-based musician. With this record he pursued a far more complex sound than on prior releases and is responsible for the majority of the instrumentation. The album follows 2011's Barchords, which was praised for being a reserved yet melodically rewarding exploration of relationships and heartache by The New Yorker.

Joelle Lurie’s bright voice and talented band has made her a first pick for high-profile events including the recent James Beard Awards at Lincoln Center. Originally from Boston, the New Yorker studied jazz and opera and brings that training to her distinctive “jazzed up pop/popped up jazz” modern style on Take Me There (September 30), her debut self-release of standards, originals and pop covers.

By popular demand, it's a new collection of illustrations from cartoonist Shannon Wheeler continuing a run that began with the Eisner Award-winning book, I THOUGHT YOU WOULD BE FUNNIER. Where do cartoons go when they've been bounced by the New Yorker? When They're as funny as what's floating in Wheeler's brain, they're boiled down to the best of the bounced and presented in one laughoutloud volume.
