Once described by ROLLING STONE as a “talented Zelig,” Carla Olson has received critical acclaim for her work as a solo performer, band leader (The Textones), and producer. In varying capacities she has worked with former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor, Percy Sledge(Sledge has recorded five songs that Olson has written or co-written), Ry Cooder, Gene Clark, Don Henley, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, John Fogerty, Mikael Rickfors, and many others. Her musical partnerships in the 1980s included former Byrd member Gene Clark (which resulted in a duet album, So Rebellious a Lover) and Mick Taylor. In 2013, after not releasing an album of her own since

Released in 1992, Hollywood Town Hall wasn't a hit, but it received enough rave reviews to considerably raise the Jayhawks' profile, and it certainly heightened expectations for their next album. On 1995's Tomorrow the Green Grass, the Jayhawks found themselves in the tricky situation of trying to match the quality of Hollywood Town Hall without simply repeating themselves, and they came remarkably close to achieving that daunting task.

2011 release from the Alt-Country/Rock outfit, their eighth album overall, and the first with the original lineup since 1995's Tomorrow The Green Grass. During their heyday in the first half of the 1990s, The Jayhawks perfected a captivating sound that seamlessly blended the elegant Folk-Rock of The Byrds, the adventurousness of Buffalo Springfield, the Hippiebilly soulfulness of The Flying Burrito Brothers, and the soaring harmonies of The Beach Boys. So it's richly ironic that their reappearance coincides with a dramatic resurgence of the musical approach they played such a central role in perpetuating–but this time around, The Jayhawks themselves are revered as icons by the young bands carrying on those same traditions, and it's their own legacy that they're advancing. On Mockingbird Time, they're once again pushing the envelope in songs and performances of rarefied dynamism and grace.

On the first album they’ve released together since they were partners in The Jayhawks in 1995, singer/songwriters Mark Olson and Gary Louris reconvene for a recording that's unlikely to disappoint fans of their old band. But while they mine a thoughtful country-folk vein that’s not far removed from Jayhawks territory, Olson and Louris take a somewhat softer, more acoustic-based, balladic approach here than they did in the Jayhawks days, lending Ready for the Flood a warm, honeyed glow.

Hollie was born to a musically talented Mother, who played piano and sang live on her own radio show and with a brother who played guitar and sang professionally since age 15 and brought her into his band as her first professional experience. By age 18 she was working full time as a professional keyboard player and lead singer/songwriter. Throughout her 30+ years in the music business she performed throughout 11 western states and Alaska working with a variety of acts from solo piano/vocals to full bands. As a true "on the road" musician playing 300 dates a year, she made her sole-living working in many styles of bands and acts. This crazy life lead her to write her humorous memoir: I’m Not a Groupie! I’m IN the Band! Which can be purchased at online retailers everywhere.

Formed in 1973, the band started out performing transcriptions of the music of the “hot” orchestras, popular between the World Wars. House gigs in the early years included such Jazz Age nightspots as Scottie’s On Seventh, the Commodore, and Castle Royale. They opened for Sarah Vaughan and Manhattan Transfer, and performed on the initial broadcasts of A Prairie Home Companion. Their first four albums received the coveted four star review in Downbeat magazine. They even played Jimmy Carter’s Inaugural Ball.

Featuring writing and lead vocal contributions from all four members, The Jayhawks' extraordinary new album, XOXO, is the most diverse and wide-ranging in the group's storied history. Rather than marking a sonic departure, though, the collection signals a sharpening of focus for the band, an elevation in understanding of who they are and what they do best. In classic Jayhawks fashion, the songs here mix the influence of American roots music with British invasion and jangly power-pop, but there's a newfound vitality at play, as well, an invigoration of confidence and energy that could only come with the injection of fresh blood. The result is an album that, much like the band's lush harmonies, brings multiple distinctive voices together into a singular whole, a collection that, ironically enough, finds unity in individuality and identity in reinvention.

London-based folk-psych-country band The Hanging Stars return with their eclectic third studio album, A New Kind Of Sky, due out on 21 February 2019. Carrying on their exploration of transatlantic psychedelic folk and cosmic country, the new album blends twelve-string, harmony-laden lullabies with soft rock anthems to create a guilded box of bucolic folk-rock. As well as the band’s signature wistful pastoral escapism, there are lyrical concerns about the recent past; the systematic division of people, values, facts and humanity in The West in general - and the UK in particular. The band weave the same thread they have always woven but this time with a more unified vision, creating a kaleidoscopic poncho for these times.
