A 360km ride through the high mountains of Yamagata Prefecture, with a cyclist on his first long road trip. An interest in Eastern philosophy has drawn our traveler to the Three Mountains of Dewa, legendary abode of the gods. From a landscape of flowering cherry trees, we ride into the snow-capped mountains to meet a veteran artisan of Japanese chess pieces. On Mt. Haguro, we're guided up the sacred peak by a Yamabushi mountain ascetic. Finally, we help a free-spirited falconer train his raptor in the snowy wilderness.

This new documentary for ITV delves into the world of potholes on Britain’s pockmarked roads which cause rage and roadworks - and are responsible for hundreds of injuries every year. With the road network stretched by increasing traffic levels and councils saying they’re at financial breaking point, this programme depicts how local authorities’ pothole gangs work round the clock to fill in the cratered asphalt, and how so-called ‘pothole vigilantes’ have taken matters into their own hands to stop cars being damaged on the nation’s roads.

In a quiet corner of Cardiff, a unique driving centre transforms lives every day. Here, higher-risk drivers, who through illness or accident have been stopped from driving, have the chance to prove they’re safe to be on the road. To lose the ability to drive is to lose independence, identity and sometimes livelihoods. Many drivers go to the centre with great hope of getting back behind the wheel. Others are reluctant, fearing they may be taken off the road forever. The driving assessors face huge dilemmas - they decide if people can have the freedom they desperately want but if they make the wrong decision, they could put the public at risk.

You have to be a special kind of couple to survive riding a tandem bike. It is around 70 miles as the crow flies between John O’Groats and Cape Wrath. But if you follow the road, it’s a bit closer to 100 miles - 100 or so miles that wildlife film-maker Andrew O’Donnell and his pal Mark Taylor decided to cycle on a borrowed tandem bicycle, with a trailer attached to the back. Their plan is to travel from corner to corner of the north coast of the Scottish mainland going from east to west. But as with every time you go roaming in the wild, sometimes you need to see what happens along the road.
