There Once Was A Night Of "Choko-Muro" The Paradise is the second album by Japanese band Providence. Is a exciting blend of dynamic jazzrock (great guitar and synthesizers) and mellow symphonic rock like early King Crimson (wonderful violin-Mellotron eruptions). The line-up includes a new guitarist and an additional saxophone player. Providence were formed in 1985. For some years around their foundation they had changed the members or produced some demo tapes but they could not appear upon major scene in those days. In 1989 they saw the light with solidifying their members and recording their debut album 'And I'll Recite An Old Myth' (released in the following year), in that Madoka Tsukada (keyboards) composed all songs. This album has got renowned also with the collaboration of Christian Beya (ex-Atoll).

This British duo used the help from trumpet, saxophone and violin in some ambitious instrumental developments. Vulgar Unicorn is song oriented melodic prog. The compositions move in and of these influences creating variety and interest but not any wasted time. Also included in their sound is some space prog influences. This combination creates interesting changes in texture and mood. The melodious and refined themes, the sound effects, the simplicity of the moods evoke Pink Floyd, Camel or Coda. This set collects the half-dozen or so EPs that the Troggs released for Fontana Records during their peak commercial run in the mid- to late '60s, and while the group's biggest hits are here, including their signature caveman stomper "Wild Thing" (written by Chip Taylor and featuring an improbable ocarina solo), the pop gem "With a Girl Like You." and the breezy ballad "Love Is All Around," what makes this compilation interesting are the various other tracks that either show the Troggs trying to replicate their biggest successes by cloning them under the guise of a new song or truly stretching into different territory (the opening track, "Oh No," which features a distinct Byrds-like jangle, is a good example of the latter). Lead singer Reg Presley's vocals range from sneering to sweet, mellow, and flowery, depending on the song…
