The V Word

After 25 years, constant traveling, nine albums, and various solo projects, Saffire are calling it quits with one last tour and Havin' the Last Word, a collection of new tunes, covers of favorites, and songs that define their dissolution. It sounds as though it's a happy-sad decision, gratified for all the success and love accrued from their fans, but pleased for future blues via other partnerships and collaborations that can now be achieved individually. Though all will pursue solo careers – Ann Rabson is already firmly established – it is this magical and timeless combination of spirit, focused same-page concept, and great musicianship that has served Saffire very well far beyond most bands. This final effort showcases individual vocal tracks, as if the group members are already preparing for going out on their own, as there's very little group harmonizing. Individual efforts notwithstanding, the group still convenes musically on common ground, especially when Rabson plays piano, Gaye Adegbalola jams on the slide guitar or harmonica, and Andra Faye offers her musings on fiddle, mandolin, or upright bass.

In 1985, Miles Davis shocked the music world by moving from Columbia to Warner Bros.. He immediately started working on an album called Perfect Way after a tune by Scritti Politti, later renamed Tutu by producer Tommy LiPuma. When Tutu (a tribute to Desmond Tutu) was released in 1986, it re-ignited Miles Davis’ career, crossing over into the rock and pop markets and winning him two Grammy Awards. I bought this twoffer after I got acquainted with the music and playing of A Blythe. I'm glad I did. Both discs are documents of some very fine playing by all of the musicians that took part in the gigs recorded at the Ronny Scott's on two separate occassions some twenty or so years ago. The playing is immaculate and the sound superb. If you've been to the club you'll know that the interior is acoustically very well treated and that more than pays off here. There is not a grain of digital harshness in the sound, all is very 'analogue' and that really compliments the music and the atmosphere.

Word problems are frequently hard for students to master because you have to learn how to extract the information out of the problem and decide how to proceed with finding the solution - and there are usually many ways to do this! This DVD course teaches by examples how to set up algebra word problems and solve them. It is applicable to any Algebra course, SAT, GRE, and other standardized tests.
