Yellow Line (1960)
From the king of Japanese exploitation films comes a criminal drama told in a semi-documentary fashion. The murder of the chief official of Kobe city's Customs triggers an investigation of a prostitution ring called the 'Yellow Line' that sells Japanese women. A hired assasin is betrayed by his organization, and kidnaps a woman who happens to be the girlfriend of a newspaper reporter.

His voice was never a thing of beauty, and his band was never the slickest, but there's so much to enjoy here. We take the E.T. story from 1954 to 1960. There's plenty of variety, from bar-room anthems like Set Up Two Glasses Joe to a surprisingly good cover version of Chuck Berry's Thirty Days. There were great forgotten singles like Kansas City Blues, Will You Be Satisfied That Way, Half A Mind, and A Guy Named Joe, as well as rare albums like "The Daddy Of Them All" and "The Importance Of Being Ernest." E.T. wasn't about to change just because everyone else was, and his Texas honky tonk music comes no finer than this.

THE SALSOUL ORCHESTRA was the brainchild of once MFSB member and legendary vibraphonist, Vincent Montana Jr. Formed in 1974, THE SALSOUL ORCHESTRA, house band for the remarkable Salsoul Records, sometimes featured up to 50 members amongst its ranks including a number of former musicians from MFSB. THE SALSOUL ORCHESTRA began an eight-year recording period in 1975 releasing eleven sensational albums during that time featuring production input from, Stan Lucas, Patrick Adams, Bunny Sigler and Tom Moulton through the years.

Difang Duana (1921-2002) and Igay Duana (1922-2002) were an Amis husband and wife farmers who became known as a folk music duo from Taiwan who specialized in traditional Amis chants. Their most recognized work is of a performance of a traditional Amis Palang song (alternately called 'Weeding and Paddyfield Song No. 1', 'Elders' Drinking Song', and 'Jubilant Drinking Song') which was recorded by a French government project and EMI, and which was subsequently sampled by the musical project Enigma for their international hit single 'Return to Innocence'. This month, Mojo magazine once again revisits a classic album with the help of some of today’s best artists.
The Yellow Submarine film was released on July 17, 1968 and the Beatles soundtrack album followed six months later. In 1999, the Yellow Submarine Songtrack, a collection of music from that era, was released and it is this track listing that has mainly driven Yellow Submarine Resurfaces, the Mojo tribute. Covers range from Benjamin Francis Leftwich tackling With A Little Help From My Friends, Baxter Dury’s When I’m Sixty-Four, Thea Gilmore doing All You Need Is Love and Cornershop’s version of Love You To. Other artists involved include the wonderful Wooden Wand, Bill Wells & Aiden Moffat, Cornshed Sisters and Pete Shelley.
