is an eight-issue miniseries from Devil's Due Publishing set in a future world where the dead have come back to life and the living are forced to coexist with them by law. Given that as premise, Jerry Frissen & Guy Davis turned what would otherwise be another horrible horror gorefest into something totally unexpected and most welcome--a very funny, macabre, terrific horror series that Quentin Tarantino would wish he'd written (not that he ever entertained the idea of writing comic books). Part homage to the genre, part parody, and partially a bizarre tongue-in-cheek sociopolitical commentary, it's a fun read and a great diversion from the usual--and it seems now pedestrian--blood and gore of the sub-genre or from the usual hero fare.

The Zombies - Different Game (2023)
WEB FLAC (tracks) - 232 MB | MP3 CBR 320 kbps - 95 MB

2023 release from the veteran psych-popsters. Different Game is the follow-up to their 2015 studio release Still Got That Hunger. This album is what the current-day Zombies were meant to make. It has the vintage qualities that made them stand out in the 1960s, yet still sounds modern and reflects their continued development as songwriters and musicians. Nine of the 10 tracks are written by Rod Argent, with the closer, "The Sun Will Rise Again," by Colin Blunstone. Rod produced the album, which includes a small string ensemble on three tracks. The band began working on this album in 2019, shortly after their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, but it was delayed by the pandemic - they strongly prefer to record together and capture a live band performance in the studio (just as they had to do in the 1960s). They were not willing to make this album remotely.

Odessey and Oracle is the second studio album by English rock band The Zombies. Mainly recorded between June and August 1967 at Abbey Road and Olympic Studios, it was released on 19 April 1968 by CBS Records. "Time of the Season" was released as a single and became a surprise hit in early 1969. The album was received indifferently on release, but has since become critically acclaimed. It ranked #100 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

This presents, in chronological sequence, both sides of all 14 of the Zombies' British singles. The Zombies were one of the most consistent British '60s bands, so it's no surprise that this is a great compilation, containing nothing mediocre and little that's even average. In addition to the three well-known hits "She's Not There," "Tell Her No," and "Time of the Season" (all present), there's an abundance of gems from B-sides and flop singles: "I Must Move," "Indication," "She's Coming Home," "Gotta Get a Hold of Myself," and "Beechwood Park" are just the very best of those. However, the absence of the great U.S.-only 1965 single "I Want You Back Again"/"I Remember When I Loved Her" and, to a lesser degree, some standout LP-only tracks (particularly "Changes" from Odessey & Oracle) prevents this from being the definitive single-disc best-of.

Short of buying Big Beat's four-CD Zombie Heaven box, this disc and Repertoire's companion expanded reissue of Odessey & Oracle are probably the simplest and handiest way to plunge into the Zombies' history, or at least the best of it. Using the original 14 songs off their debut album – one of the strongest British Invasion debuts – as a jumping off point, this disc adds 17 more songs from adjacent sessions before and after. The latter include single A- and B-sides ("Tell Her No," "Leave Me Be," etc.), EP cuts that never made it onto their original LPs, and odd outtakes like "I'm Going Home." One of the factors that helped place the Zombies in the front rank of British Invasion bands was the quality of their work, which was so high that even their outtakes are worth hearing multiple times, as is borne out on this disc. The music itself is primarily R&B-based British pop/rock, similar to the Beatles, the early Moody Blues, and, to a lesser degree, the Hollies at their most soulful, and as inventive, entertaining, exciting, and original as any material of this era in history.
