"Earl was a wonderful man with a great eye for new and innovative art. And such an amusing companion, too." - Mick Jagger Earl McGrath was the ultimate '70s jet setter, an art collector and comic bon vivant who stumbled into the record business between legendary parties in New York and LA and discovered Daryl Hall and John Oates and then Jim Carroll. Atlantic founder Ahmet Ertegun gave Earl his own label, Clean Records, in 1970; Mick Jagger hired him to run Rolling Stones Records in 1977. Friend to Joan Didion, Andy Warhol, and a galaxy of luminaries, Earl was an inveterate tastemaker.

Reissue of this live archive release from the Folk music legend. In 2001, The Woody Guthrie Archives received two spools of wire recordings from a live Woody Guthrie performance held in Newark, New Jersey in 1949. With the help of many talented recording engineers, the Woody Guthrie Foundation transferred this rare live performance from a delicate wire recording to digital audio, and, with state-of-the-art technology, restored it to near-perfection.

‘The Sun Shines Here’ captures perfectly the moment indie pop emerged from the ashes of the post-punk years, bringing a brighter, more ambitious sound, and an enthused cross-section of British youth culture, into the spotlight. A must for lovers and collectors of independent music and admirers of the independent spirit that enabled it.
Eight years later, Cherry Red presents the sequel, ‘The Sun Shines Here’. Once again referencing a Hurrah! song, this 3CD set revisits and explores the birth of Indie Pop, a period when, in the early 1980s, as London centred around more angular, aggressive music, bands emerged from Scotland, Liverpool and Manchester drawing on the cooler end of ‘60s and ‘70s music to create something fresh and new.

Claudine Longet's long suit was really her album's covers, which made their purchase almost irresistable (at least, to men) once they were displayed in record stores. That said, this collection of her combined output for Barnaby Records (the label founded and owned by her then husband, Andy Williams) isn't bad the two albums We've Only Just Begun and Let's Spend the Night Together have been combined in these 24 tracks, all remastered in state of the art sound…

Seized by customs upon entry to the United States, subject of a heated court battle, banned in cities across the United States, Vilgot Sjöman’s I Am Curious - Yellow is one of the most controversial films of all time. This landmark document of Swedish society during the sexual revolution has been declared both obscene and revolutionary. It tells the story of Lena (Lena Nyman), a searching and rebellious young woman, and her personal quest to understand the social and political conditions in 1960s Sweden, as well as her bold exploration of her own sexual identity. Shattering taboos as it freely traverses the lines between fact and fiction, I Am Curious - Yellow is presented here for the first time with its companion piece I Am Curious - Blue, a parallel film featuring the same characters and in which the lines between documentary and fiction are even further blurred.
Black Market: The Slave's Value in National Culture after 1865 (Studies in United States Culture)

Black Market: The Slave's Value in National Culture after 1865 (Studies in United States Culture) by Aaron Carico
English | June 22nd, 2020 | ISBN: 1469655586, 1469655578 | 296 pages | EPUB | 24.84 MB

On the eve of the Civil War, the estimated value of the U.S. enslaved population exceeded $3 billion—triple that of investments nationwide in factories, railroads, and banks combined, and worth more even than the South's lucrative farmland. Not only an object to be traded and used, the slave was also a kind of currency, a form of value that anchored the market itself. And this value was not destroyed in the war. Slavery still structured social relations and cultural production in the United States more than a century after it was formally abolished. As Aaron Carico reveals in Black Market, slavery's engine of capital accumulation was preserved and transformed, and the slave commodity survived emancipation.
