Often originally waxed on microscopic labels and distributed in minuscule amounts, these troubled and sometimes forgotten troubadours sing of lustful homicides, masonic assassinations and Satan's perpetual slaves. Years in the making - 'Hillbillies In Hell: Tribulations' presents 32 testaments of timeless tribulations - sinful succubi, axe-wielding cuckolds, vengeful Hill-folk and the eternal quest for blistered redemption.

For many, Eddie Condon's name is synonymous with swing-infused Chicago-style Dixieland, which he embodied in almost every way. Although not considered a great technician, Condon was a great section man, a guitarist who provided a solid rhythmic root. More than that, he was an organizer who sponsored and influenced innumerable musicians. These eight CDs feature groups led by players associated with Eddie Condon. Although Condon only performs on a handful of the tracks, his spirit is pervasive, and the collection is unified not only by style but also by something more ethereal as well. As is common with the Mosaic box sets, there is a commitment to quality recording that often begins with long-forgotten original masters…

Mensah and more. 2 CD collection of 29 tracks then hits the groove straight away with Aslhley Beadle’s ‘Afrikans On Marz’ mix of Femi Kuti’s ‘Beng Beng Beng’, next up the classic Dennis Ferrer track ‘Funu’ which then leads us to a nicely different track with Tony Allen’sAfrobeat mix of Gigi’s ‘Gudfella’. So many more I could pick out too including DJ Food ‘Dub Lion’ and Orchestre Poly-Rhythmo De Cotonou Benin’s ‘Houe Towe Houn’. Suffice to say this does the job big time.

When this original series first came to town, it boasted a breath of fresh air amidst a tiring tide of 60s garage punk leftovers.
