The Man Who Lies

The Man Who Lies (1968)
A man may or may not have betrayed a resistance fighter during World War II. He has supposedly been shot down by the Nazis and wanders into town. Mourning the death of an unseen comrade, he is taken in by the family of the dead rebel. He engages in a superfluous affair and witnesses the lesbian relationship between the man's sister and a female servant. When passions subside, the family has doubts about the reliability of the man's story.

La-La Land Records and Epic Pictures present renowned composer Joe Kraemer’s (JACK REACHER, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION) original motion picture score to the acclaimed thriller/drama THE MAN WHO KILLED HITLER AND THEN THE BIGFOOT, starring Sam Elliott and Larry Miller, and written and directed by Robert D. Krzykowski. Kraemer weaves a robust, thematic score, teaming with drama, romance, pathos and suspense. It’s a striking work, incorporating classic 70s vibes with a modern sensibility. The film is unique, thoughtful and impactful, and Kraemer’s score is its beating heart all the way, supporting a remarkable lead performance by veteran actor Sam Elliott. Produced by the composer and mastered by Bruce Botnick, this CD contains an additional track exclusive to the CD release.

Roque Banos has been hired to score the upcoming film adaptation of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. The film is directed by Terry Gilliam (Brazil, The Fisher King, The Brothers Grimm) and stars Adam Driver, Michael Palin, Stellan Skarsgard and Olga Kurylenko. The movie follows a jaded young advertising executive who returns to the Spanish village where he made a film based on Cervantes’ masterpiece years earlier and meets a villager who believes himself to be Don Quixote as he gets swept up in a fantastic extravaganza complete with damsels in distress, knights and giants. Gilliam also co-wrote the screenplay with Tony Grisoni (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Tideland) based on the novel by Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra. Gerardo Herrero (Son of the Bride) is producing the project with Mariela Besuievsky (The Secret In Their Eyes), Gabriele Oricchio and Amy Gilliam. Banos has previously scored the Herrero-produced feature The Last Circus. Alberto Iglesias was originally attached when the movie was set to go into production last year. The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is expected to premiere in 2018.

"I have always a slight feeling of pity for the man who has no knowledge of chess, just as I would pity the man who has remained ignorant of love. Chess, like love, like music, has the power to make men happy. The way to this happiness I have tried to show in this book." — Author's Preface

True, Heart were trying to progress following the hard-rocking Bebe Le Strange so it could be said that Private Audition and its followup Passionworks were a transition stage. That said, it's actually not a bad album. The writing is good, but not at the heights of Dreamboat Annie or Dog & Butterfly…

For some it's a workplace, for many it's a playground but for others it has defined and inspired their lives. There are artists and engineers, kayakers and dockers, swimmers and boat builders, the Navy and the Fire Brigade. Rising in an anonymous bog in the Wicklow Mountains, the Liffey traverses Kildare before becoming the heart and soul of Dublin. This series goes on a journey with a river brimming with history and overflowing with stories.

There are a few artists out there that, without trying to change the world, succeeded in accomodating the old recipes to the present day. In the domain of Progressive rock, The Flower Kings is the perfect example. Following a path not unsimilar to Spock's Beard's, the swedish band led by guitarist Roine Stolt achieved to leave its mark in the middle of the Nineties, accompanying the rebirth of Progressive rock. It remains on top of the genre nowadays. It is no surprise then if, after having paid tribute to most of the giants of the Golden Seventies, the artists of today tend to care about that second generation as well. That's how the Musea label and the Colossus fanzine created an album in four CDs, tailor-made for the excellency of The Flower Kings: "A Flower Full Of Stars - A Tribute To The Flower Kings".

Silva Screen Records present earlier composers who were masters of music on Hitchcock films, and later films with Bernard Herrmann on the second CD. The "CONCERTO FOR ORCHESTRA" is Miklos Rozsa's haunting theme which lasts over nine minutes is something from heaven. "STRANGERS ON THE TRAIN" the Dimitri Tiomkin contribution is also an outstanding track which can move the unmoveable with the heart-racing pounding sounds that the two composers generate. Both composers Rozsa and Tiomkin have a list of accomplishments a mile long, but to hear their music on a Hitchcock film is pure geneious in film making and scoring.

This 2012 collection of 69 songs on three discs is truly awesome! All songs were mastered from the original Columbia recordings and sound great. Since this collection spans her career (recordings from the 40's, 50's and 60's), a special kudos must go out to the unlisted balance engineer; a very smooth and even run! Classic track after classic track, like The Very Thought Of You (1950), Dream A Little Dream Of Me (1957), Sentimental Journey (1945), It's Magic (1948) and Happy Talk (1961) to name a few. The first eight tracks on Disc #3 are from her great film role, "Calamity Jane," in which she overwhelmed Howard Keel, who was nobody's idea of a second fiddle.

Out of all the geisha, only Mineko´s strangeness was hidden from the world. Mineko was the geisha who could not feel pain. She was the geisha that no man could hurt, no matter how hard they tried. And not only was Mineko unable to feel physical pain, she was also unable to feel the emotions of love and longing and need.
