Nat King Cole's collaborations with Gordon Jenkins rank among the finest from either artist or arranger. Cole's first stereophonic long player, 1957's Love Is the Thing remains the epitome of the pair's undeniable compatibility, and it topped the album charts for eight weeks. The opener "When I Fall in Love" is considered by many to be nothing short of definitive; the restrained orchestration perfectly adapts to the singer's verdant vocals. Similarly, "Stardust" sparkles as a flawless musical alliance is formed with Cole's warm and inviting narrative weaving over Jenkins' intimate score. Simply stated, both songs are unmitigated masterworks - and we're only two cuts into the dozen-song LP…
From one of the biggest selling American bands of all time, who brought you their brand of the best of blues based hard rock from the 70’s through to present day, this release collects the best of Aerosmith’s ballad material as well as including a few select other fan favorites. The International tracklisting contains 16 of their biggest hits including the huge hits, ‘Cryin’, ‘Crazy’, ‘Love In An Elevator’ and ‘I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing’.
Barbara Mason moved to United Sound Detroit to cut ‘Loves the thing’ album in 1975 her last for the Buddah label. It was produced by Jimmy Bishop and Don Davis and includes the classic answer song to Shirley Brown’s ‘Woman to woman’ in ‘From his woman to you’. ‘Shackin Up’ is another great love triangle song, as is the ballad ‘So He’s Yours Now’. ‘Your Sweet love’ has a southern soul feel, and ‘(There’s) One man Between Us’ is an upbeat 70’s Detroit dancer. Another good Barbara Mason album..
Al Sears had the misfortune of having his one hit, "Castle Rock," released under the leadership of Johnny Hodges, cheating him of his one chance at fame. A fine swing-based tenor who could stomp and honk with the best of them (although he rarely screamed), Sears had relatively few opportunities to record as a leader, and this CD (which reissues a 1960 LP) was one of his last. Sears (along with pianist Don Abney, guitarist Wally Richardson, bassist Wendell Marshall, and drummer Joe Marshall) sticks to basic originals, blues, and standards, and is in top form on these swinging and generally accessible performances.
Tangerine Dream live in concert at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium during the Moogfest 2011.
It’s end of October, the 28th, 2011, 8 pm - a night to remember for many fans - a lot of them already in funny Halloween costumes - who turned up at Moogfest especially for the Tangerine Dream performance at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville, NC. American, Canadian as well as British TD fans have such a loyal connection to the energy of a TD concert that it is even for the band themselves always a breathtaking experience.
Now in their 44th year after the name Tangerine Dream appeared first time in public, one could assume that the musical energy has probably slowed down, but it is the opposite, a bundle of energetic rhythms, sounds and lead lines will accompany you through a night of a remarkable live experience…
Another ELP collection and another round of catalogue re-issues. However, the band are now represented by Sony so that should mean a much higher profile. The deal has already seen the first crop of re-issues get very favourable reviews in Uncut magazine. Amazing but true!…
