is an ongoing comic book series from Vertigo, set in Uganda, written by Joshua Dysart, with art by Alberto Ponticelli. It began publication in October 2008. It is the third series run for the Unknown Soldier character, a symbol for all the nameless soldiers who have fought in all of the wars of the United States of America. It has been gaining praise, one of which comes from Garth Ennis, who incidentally wrote a four-issue mini-series with the same title also under the Vertigo imprint, featuring art by Kilian Plunkett, a much darker portrayal which the current ongoing series has followed: "...A story with teeth, unafraid to confront some horrific truths about the world we live in." It was nominated for an Eisner Award for Best New Series.

"The Unknown Soldier," a documentary by Michael Verhoeven, takes on one of the comforting myths of postwar Germany: the idea that ordinary German soldiers were for the most part unaware of and uninvolved in the worst crimes of the Nazi regime. In a version of history held by many Germans, the SS and other specialized organizations conceived and carried out policies of extermination against civilians, while the Wehrmacht rank and file went about the usual business of fighting the enemy. It was thus possible, after the war, to commemorate the service of fathers and grandfathers, and even to treat them with a measure of sentimental reverence, without condoning the atrocities of the Third Reich.

If the sins of father are transferable to future generations, then Germany has a serious familial problem. That’s the driving tenet of The Unknown Soldier, Michael Verhoeven’s provocative documentary centered on the ethical, social and psychological wrangles forced out of the country’s subconscious between 1999 and 2004, when the controversial tour of the Wehrmach Exhibition confronted citizens with evidence that genocidal behavior during the Holocaust spread throughout the German army, rather than being restricted to the universally denounced inner realm of the SS.

Adolf Hitler the fighting man is the subject of this engrossing feature, chronicling the future dictator's combat experience as a foot soldier in World War I. Excerpts from Hitler's letters from the front, recollections of regimental comrades, and evaluations by his officers offer a revealing portrait of a brooding, fearless loner who preferred battlefields to brothels, frontline service to home leave, and kept the men he frequently risked his life to protect at arm's length. Original German, British, and American wartime footage presents a graphic visual impression of life in the trenches.

It is the summer of 1941. An eastern-Finnish machine gun company receives an order to turn in their surplus equipment. The company is transferred to the front lines. The next morning the soldiers wake to the sound of guns - the war has begun. The Finnish troops attack and quickly move across the border. The young, nervous rookies of the company get their baptism of fire, and the men become familiar with death and the hardships of war. Under strength and badly equipped they fight a superior enemy. The lists of heroes and of the dead seem endless. Edvin Laine's epic interpretation of Väinö Linna's war novel "Tuntematon Sotilas" is an entire chapter in the book of Finnish movie history.
