Shades of a Blue Orphanage is the second studio album by Irish band Thin Lizzy, released in 1972. The title is a combination of the members' previous bands: Shades of Blue and Orphanage. "Sarah" was written for Phil Lynott's grandmother who raised him when his mother, Philomena, was unable to do so. This song should not be confused with the 1979 song of the same name, for Lynott's daughter, included on Black Rose: A Rock Legend. Now it been digitally remastered and expanded with the addition of 9 bonus tracks, including the full-length hit single "Whiskey In The Jar" (plus it's B-side "Black Boys On The Corner"), 3 songs overdubbed and remixed in 1977, and 4 songs recorded during the BBC Radio 1 John Peel Sessions.
Both Johnny the Fox and Jailbreak were released in 1976 and are seen as the definitive Thin Lizzy studio albums featuring such hits as The Boys Are Back In Town, Jailbreak, Warriors, and Cowboy Song.
Jailbreak was released in March 1976 and was seen as the bands breakthrough album in America reaching number 18 in the Billboard charts and was a top ten record in the UK. Johnny The Fox was recorded in the same year and was released in October 1976 to critical acclaim and got to no 11 in the UK charts.
1976 is a new compilation box set containing the two versions of both albums, the original form and a new stereo mix by Richard Whittaker as overseen by guitarist Scott Gorham and mastered by Andy Pearce. The other discs contain unreleased mixes from the bands vault, radio sessions, and an unreleased show from Cleveland…
After achieving a reluctant Top Ten hit with a rock version of the traditional Irish pub ballad "Whiskey in the Jar," Thin Lizzy began work on Vagabonds of the Western World – their third, and ultimately last album for Decca Records. The single's surprise success gave the band bargaining power to demand more money and time to record, resulting in their first sonically satisfying album…
The Peel Sessions is an album by Irish band Thin Lizzy, released in 1994. This album consists of a series of recordings made for BBC Radio 1, and originally broadcast on the John Peel show. The Peel Sessions features raw and wild versions of great Lizzy songs that provide a great historical overview of the band's development.
Originally released on 12th March 1993, the album hit the No.1 spot in both the UK and Ireland and sold over 6 million copies worldwide. The four disc box set contains the album on the first CD and bonus material spread over three further discs. Of course all of those previous bonus tracks are included, but so too are unreleased early demos, a live performance from 31 July 1994 at the Féile Festival in Ireland and a series of radio sessions from 1992-1993. The box includes a poster and four postcards.
