American Ride is the ninth studio album from American musician Willie Nile. It was released in June 2013 under Loud & Proud Records. A hell of a lot has been written about rock & roll singer/songwriter Willie Nile since he made his Arista debut in 1981. Musicians and press alike have sung his praises across the globe, yet mainstream success has always proved elusive. It hasn't deterred him, however; he's continued to issue new recordings – albeit sporadically – that have been lyrically consistent, and contain enough deft, melodic hooks, to justify his unrepentant swagger. The recording of American Ride, the follow-up to his killer Innocent Ones from 2011, was funded by a successful Pledge Music campaign; it was to be issued independently. Loud & Proud's Tom Lipsky intervened after hearing it, and made Nile the signature signing for the label's new distribution deal with Sony's RED.
Tracks have a nice rolling feel, and the group is very comfortable with each other. Foster's tone is excellent. “….this is a great, great record; a very swingin', soulful, and I dare say slightly modal side from the great sax man Frank Foster, long time sideman and musical director of the Count Basie organization. …..Foster has assembled a very competent and skillful support crew, mostly former and then current Basie sideman (which accounts for the title of the LP: 'Basie is Our Boss…) but he is also supported by a great favorite of this blog; the unheralded John Young on piano. Unusually for an Argo side, there are only 6 tracks on this LP, as Foster & company are given a rare opportunity to stretch out and tackle the material.
Elsinore are an adventurous pop group from Illinois whose music combines elements of folk-rock and alt-country as well as indie pop, the latter influence growing stronger as the group's history wears on. Elsinore were formed in 2004 when songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist Ryan Groff, keyboard player and vocalist Mark Woolwine, and drummer and vocalist Dave Pride were all studying music at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL. The three classmates became friends, and as they discovered they had similar tastes in music, they got together to play open mike nights at Charleston night spots. The three became regulars on the local music scene, and after they met another EIU student, bassist and vocalist Chris Eitel, he joined the group and Elsinore was born.
BGO's 2013 two-fer She Even Woke Me Up to Say Goodbye/There Must Be More to Love Than This combines Jerry Lee Lewis' 1970 album with its 1971 sequel, both ranking among his finest country efforts. She Even Woke Me Up to Say Goodbye slightly edges out its sequel in terms of consistency, partially because it's anchored on a couple of major hits ("Once More with Feeling," "She Even Woke Me Up to Say Goodbye"), but There Must Be More to Love Than This is no slouch, containing a bunch of pure hard country, lots of barroom weepers and barrelhouse rockers.
Woody Guthrie was born on July 14th, 1912 in Okemah, Oklahoma. Over the decades, his songs have run around the world like a fast train on a well oiled track. They've become the folk song standards of the nation, known and performed in many languages throughout the world. Woody Guthrie at 100! Live at the Kennedy Center, is the CD/ DVD centennial celebration of the birth of America's greatest folk singer, Woody Guthrie. John Mellencamp, Jackson Browne, Tom Morello, Donovan, Ani DiFranco, Rosanne Cash, Old Crow Medicine Show and others perform many of Guthrie's classics along with recently recorded lyrics from the Woody Guthrie Archives.
This is our fourth CD containing compositions by Alessandro Scarlatti (1660–1725) that were chiefly meant for the harpsichord and performed on it. The project stemmed, in a natural, almost parallel fashion, from the programme for the study and publication of the vast corpus of manuscript sources (no less than 25) of Alessandro Scarlatti’s pieces for keyboard instruments that was started by us more than ten years ago: the publication of his Opera Omnia per strumento a tastiera by the publisher Ut Orpheus Edizioni of Bologna (edited by Andrea Macinanti and Francesco Tasini) began in 2000 and was completed in 2012 with the printing of the sixth and last volume.
