After an opus in 2012 self-production, made of original compositions revealing an inspired and modern universe, the French saxophonist Thomas Ibanez presents his new album which is part of a great tradition of Hard Bop. He signed with the Jazz Family label and released "If Ever I Would Leave You" in March 2018. Beyond the warm, voluble and powerful sound developed in order to be on the trail of the legendary saxophonist Dexter Gordon, Thomas worked for several years on the repertoire of this new album.

There is the tenor's timbre: worked, carved, finely honed, painstakingly sanded; raw and unpainted, which picks hearing. The sonorous power of Thomas Ibanez's nervous and lyrical Saxophone perfectly combines antagonistic feelings, ranging from brilliance to evanescence, from a slight joviality to an informed depth of mind. Standards and compositions radiate a common intensity, a unifying purpose. Jouvence of the Good Old Times! We guess references, we recognize grids; it is not long, however, to forget themselves in their deployments. Because, the originality of the leader takes full root inside the Edifice. His elegant personality strives to celebrate Tradition again and again.

As a leader, guitarist, and composer John Scofield has made many different kinds of records over the course of his long career, as well as played on dozens more as a sideman to people like Miles Davis and Charles Mingus, to mention just two. His last offering, and his first for Emarcy, was This Means That, an adventurous blend of straight-ahead blowing and funk-oriented numbers that worked beautifully and yielded a slew of critical acclaim. Piety Street is a different story altogether. Scofield has assembled a crack band of more roots and groove-oriented sidemen to cut his version of a gospel album..
