After eleven albums with a varying ensemble size, Martin Küchen’s Angles returns with The Death of Kalypso, its most ambitious statement to date: a jazz opera for our times. Joining forces with vocalist Elle-Kari and Angles pianist Alexander Zethson, who wrote the string arrangements and band notations, Küchen adds another volume to the band’s sizeable, yet coherent catalog, which merges infectious free jazz grooves with tumultuous emotional cadences that reflect both human and political concerns.

“A Midsummer Night's Dream” was born in Rome; it was autumn of the year 1978. After ten years of perfecting and revising the score throughout the various voyages of this show to more than ten countries, covering all continents, I conceived the definitive album of "Dream" with Luca Mainardi during the autumn of 1987 in Barcelona and then it was put together under the general production of Giulio Cesare Ricci in January 1988, in London. It was then a process of recapturing the best moments, ideas and remnants of recordings and voice-over effects from the past, mixed with other totally new for the first and last time. Guru Guru is a German krautrock band formed in 1968 as The Guru Guru Groove by Mani Neumeier (drums), Uli Trepte (bass) and Eddy Naegeli (guitar), later replaced by the American Jim Kennedy. Paulette, a nude model from France, has recently settled in the United States with her husband, a photographer. After dropping her husband off at his studio, she goes to work posing for a nudie photographer. During a break from the photo session she falls asleep and dreams that she visits a night club, goes hitch-hiking, and is chased through the woods and along a riverbank by a crazed would-be rapist who ties her up. She is rescued by a handsome man and is later chased by an ape. The handsome man is temporarily abducted by four naked native women who drag him into the river and dance to rock 'n' roll music.
