Multiple Grammy-nominated saxophonist Jay Rodriguez celebrates his New York heritage in his multicultural approach to jazz in New York. This live recorded album transports audiences back to a New York City jazz club, like Dizzy's, in the 1950s because of his clear dedication and passion for the preservation of jazz's authenticity.

The fruitful career of the legendary queen of salsa Celia Cruz can be roughly divided into three distinct periods that, in many ways, mirror the development of Afro-Caribbean music during most of the twentieth century.

Ramon "Mongo" Santamaria was an Afro-Cuban Latin jazz percussionist. He is most famous for being the composer of the jazz standard "Afro Blue", recorded by John Coltrane among others. In 1950 he moved to New York where he played with Perez Prado, Tito Puente, Cal Tjader, Fania All Stars, etc. He was an integral figure in the fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythms with R&B and soul, paving the way for the boogaloo era of the late 1960s. His 1963 hit rendition of Herbie Hancock's "Watermelon Man" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. His album Mambo Mongo was released on Chesky Records in 1993.

Celia Caridad Cruz Alfonso[a] (21 October 1925 – 16 July 2003), known as Celia Cruz, was a Cuban singer and one of the most popular Latin artists of the 20th century.

Ever since Ramón "Mongo" Santamaría arrived in the United States from Cuba in the late 1940s and hooked up with bebop legend Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Cal Tjader, and Pérez Prado, he's been the most imitated conga drummer in Latin jazz and salsa music. Further, his pioneering flute-violin charanga bands have almost singly expanded the parameters of Latin sounds in America.

"Santana (III)" is Santana's third studio album and was released in September 1971. It is often referred to simply as "III" or as "Man with An Outstretched Hand". The third and last album by the same members who played at Woodstock, it has been considered by many to be the band's peak, musically. The album was the last Santana album to reach #1 on the charts until Supernatural in 1999. Two singles came from III: "Everybody's Everything" and "No One to Depend On".

Abraxas is the second studio album by Latin rock band Santana. The title of the album originates from a line in Hermann Hesse's book, "Demian". The album cover features the 1961 painting "Annunciation" by German-French painter Mati Klarwein. In 2003, the album was ranked number 207 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The album was also included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
