'Black Radio' and 'Black Radio II' are landmark albums that have shaped the genres of jazz, hip hop and r&b for the past decade. Direct lines can be drawn to Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Kendrick Lamar, and black music writ large. For 'Black Radio III', 4-time grammy winner Robert Glasper cements his legacy as producer, curator and cultural icon. These collaborations range from the most powerful voices in contemporary black music (Killer Mike, ty dolla $ign, D Smoke, PJ Morton) to the most important lyricists and performers of the past 30 years (Jennifer Hudson, Ledisi, Common, Gregory Porter, Musiq Soulchild, India.Arie). 'Black Radio III' is also a statement for these times. It is Glasper's most direct statement of the frustration and opportunity of a world disrupted by social change. It is at once beautiful, powerful and innovative.

At its core, Last Ark Out is just a group of music nerds. Bringing together influences ranging from Wayne Shorter to Kendrick Lamar to Radiohead and back, the band has a forward-thinking energy that is at once inwardly intellectual and immediately satisfying.

Tate McRae's third album opens with a warning: "Nah, seriously, get your hands off my man." Right away, you know that Tatiana is in control. Beyoncé has Sasha Fierce, Gaga had Jo Calderone, Nicki Minaj has countless onstage alter egos; McRae, who has described herself as a "pretty reserved Canadian," slips into this "feisty" and "obnoxious" (her words) character to leverage dance-floor sex appeal. And Tatiana comes with an A-list army: producer Ryan Tedder, guest stars including McRae's boyfriend Kid Laroi ("I Know Love"), and hit-making songwriters like Julia Michaels and Amy Allen (who have credits on Sabrina Carpenter's biggest hits as well as that aforementioned opener, the slinky slow roll "Miss possessive"). Their aim is true on So Close to What, but sometimes McRae's own firepower is a little lackluster.

The fifth full-length from singer Inara George and multi-instrumentalist Greg Kurstin, Interpreting the Masters, Volume 2: A Tribute to Van Halen both sheds new light on the glory of classic VH and further proves the playful brilliance of the bird and the bee. The album follows Interpreting the Masters, Volume 1: A Tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates, a 2010 release hailed as “wink-free pop bliss” by Entertainment Weekly. This time around, George and Kurstin find common ground with their source material in a shared affinity for fantastically intricate rhythms, unforgettable melodies, and—most essentially—a certain ecstatic spirit imbued into every song.

Nothing said new or modern or futuristic quite like a synthesiser in the 70s and 80s. If you were shooting an advert and you wanted your product or your company to appear forward-thinking and ahead of the game, then you would want something electronic, something out of the ordinary. When TV producers and advertising directors started searching for music that sounded like “Tubular Bells” – and then Tomita, and later Jean Michel Jarre – music libraries such De Wolfe, Bruton, Parry and Chappell had to have the tracks readily available. Compiled by Bob Stanley, “Tomorrow’s Fashions” varies from advertising jingles and TV themes to space exploration and gorgeous, beatless ambience. Though it’s 40-to-50 years old there’s a real freshness to this music. Older jazz players Brian Bennett, John Cameron, Alan Hawkshaw and others seized the chance to operate a synth; younger pups including John Saunders and Monica Beale were simply intrigued by the new technology being wheeled into the studios. There’s a tangible sense of adventure.

"Capacity To Love", the 17th album of Ibrahim Maalouf, is a hymn to inclusion, sharing and identity in a world where professing to be different has led to division. A new album under the sign of hope and tolerance, sublimated by a guest list as amazing as unexpected, such as the pop singer Gregory Porter, the legendary American rap group De La Soul, the English pop icon JP Cooper, Erick The Architect, the charismatic leader of the group Flatbush Zombies or the new Mozart of US rap, the winner of "Rhythm + Flow" D Smoke. The album also features French singer-guitarist -M-, Cuban phenomenon Cimafunk, new New Orleans sensation Tank And The Bangas, Quincy Jones protégé Sheléa Frazier, and new talent Alemeda, recently signed to TDE, Kendrick Lamar's historic label.
