Too Many Men

A few drinks too many leads an uptight architect and quick-witted hairstylist to marry in Las Vegas. Can a mistake lead to friendship and love?

In Roman Polanski's adaptation of Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Nastassja Kinski plays Tess, a poor British… peasant girl sent to live with her distant and wealthy relatives, the D'Urbervilles. Though Tess' father had hoped that the girl would be permitted a portion of the D'Urberville riches, he is in for a major disappointment: Tess' new housemates are not D'Urbervilles at all, but a social-climbing family that has bought the name. Tess won three Oscars, including a Best Cinematography statuette for the late Geoffrey Unsworth and his successor Ghislain Cloquet. The film also served to catapult Nastassja Kinski to stardom.

"Love + fear = Torment" is one of the most erotic and sensual films ever to be imported from France by Olympic International Films. It was only because of the significant social importance of this picture that U.S. Customs authorities allowed such a startling picture to be admitted into this country. It shows in infinite detail, the raw realistic side of French life, and should be one of the year's top box office draws. "Love + fear = Torment" exposes the secret world of the French model studios, and the men who try to corrupt them. Mobsters become involved when fifty-thousand dollars worth of uncut gems are stolen. A model studio becomes terrorized as one of the models innocently befriends one of the mobsters.

The true story of Austrian industrialist Oskar Schindler, who harbored Polish Jews during WWII by using them as workers in his factory. Schindler saved 1,100 Jews from certain death. Only a select few filmmakers can say they've made an important film. Not a great film, or a critically acclaimed film, or an award-winning film, or even a meaningful film. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of talented directors who share such claims to fame. But an important film? Those are in a category all their own, and it's a very, very small category. Schindler's List is one such rarity, and its importance to cinema, history and an entire people can not and should not be understated.

Poor Jan Fong (Ngan) has a most unusual problem: whenever she becomes sexually excited, an electrical charge is generated, frying her partner. Swearing off men, Jan now uses light bulbs to stimulate herself (but not florescent — too big). Her new boss, Leo (Jimmy Wong Shu-kei, who has been in almost many C-IIIers as Elvis Tsui Kam-kong and now bears a distracting resemblance to Raymond Wong Pak-ming), seems to be an ideal match for Jan, much to the delight of the other office secretaries (Teresa Mak Kar-kei, Crystal Cheung Yee-tung, and Grace Lam Nga-sze). Leo claims that he does not believe in inter-office fraternization, though he still goes out of his way to spend as much time with Jan as possible.In an effort to cure her rather unique malady, Jan visits a lecherous MD (Charlie Cho Cha-lei, another actor who has been in far too many of these things) who makes love with her, while dressed head-to-foot in rubber and wearing several condoms. His sai lo gets barbecued but Jan discovers a new ability: during orgasm, she can predict the numbers in the Mark Six lottery draw. Her desire for a stud is even more pressing now but Leo keeps turning her down because he is actually impotent. Desperate, Jan gets a job as a club girl but still cannot find the right man. Of course, he is right under her nose all along and just needs a little “electric therapy”.

This complex, highly cerebral sci-fi thriller concerns a father and son, each situated in two separate time periods - one inhabiting the present, and another living forty years in the future. Each senses the same conspiracy afoot, and begins searching for answers; instead of attaining deeper insights into external events, the men find that their investigations drive them into states of endless introspection. Ultimately, each must grapple with the same Faustian bargain - and each makes a very different choice.

Adam, the eldest of seven brothers, goes to town to get a wife. He convinces Milly to marry him that same day. They return to his backwoods home. Only then does she discover he has six brothers - all living in his cabin. Milly sets out to reform the uncouth siblings, who are anxious to get wives of their own. Then, after reading about the Roman capture of the Sabine women, Adam develops an inspired solution to his brothers' loneliness.

The film deals with the situation of British prisoners of war during World War II who are ordered to build a bridge to accommodate the Burma-Siam railway. Their instinct is to sabotage the bridge but, under the leadership of Colonel Nicholson, they are persuaded that the bridge should be constructed as a symbol of British morale, spirit and dignity in adverse circumstances. At first, the prisoners admire Nicholson when he bravely endures torture rather than compromise his principles for the benefit of the Japanese commandant Saito. He is an honorable but arrogant man, who is slowly revealed to be a deluded obsessive. He convinces himself that the bridge is a monument to British character, but actually is a monument to himself, and his insistence on its construction becomes a subtle form of collaboration with the enemy. Unknown to him, the Allies have sent a mission into the jungle, led by Warden and an American, Shears, to blow up the bridge.
