The three string quartets of Brahms emerged late in the career of the composer, who was skeptical for a long time given the burden of Beethoven's heritage. The Novus Quartet, winner of the ARD Competition and the Mozart Competition, has proven itself as one of Korea's best ensembles. From the beginning, it dared to the Second Vienna School, Franck, Shostakovich and Schubert. At Brahms, their transparent sound combines with full commitment and a concise, passionate melody that excellently lives up to the composer's incomparable sense of architecture.

Pierre Monteux A major figure during the golden age of American orchestral music, conductor Pierre Monteux had an exceptionally long career that began in the 19th century, encompassed the premiere of Stravinsky's Le Sacre du printemps, which he conducted, and extended into the 1960s. He fundamentally shaped several American orchestras in the French style. Monteux had a large recording catalog stretching back well into the 78 rpm era. Many of his recordings appeared in reissues well after his death; a 1955 recording with the Boston Symphony Orchestra featuring works by Berlioz, Brahms, Chausson, Debussy, Franck, and d'Indy appeared in a digital form on the ICA label in 2018.Of nonreligious Jewish background, Monteux was born in Paris on April 4, 1875.

Despite extraordinary international recognition Myra Hess never assumed the role of famed cosmopolitan soloist. Rather, she remained the archetypal English lady abroad. Even so she conquered America from the first, an appearance at New York in 1922 with a program that included Scarlatti and Bach, Franck and Schumann, Debussy and Chopin. Myra Hess was preparing for an extensive tour of America when war was declared in 1939. Refusing to leave the UK, she soon became involved in a cause which eventually made her name a legend, the war-time National Gallery concerts. Chamber music was, quite simply, a life-long love that inexorably grew to a passion and which perhaps, reached its climax with appearances at Casals' Prades Festival in 1951-1952."
