Touching The Light

A cyclical rhythmic groove, eerie droning voices, and raspy violin bursts mark the breadth of "I Control the Weather," the spacy, almost seven-minute opener on Dire Wolves' fourth proper album Grow Towards the Light. Headed by multi-instrumentalist Jeffrey Alexander, the San Francisco collective have, over a ten-year span, issued scads of exploratory bootlegs, singles, and myriad D.I.Y. releases that bend acid folk, cosmic psych-rock, Krautrock, experimental jazz, and whatever else the group is feeling at the moment into lengthy pieces that often constitute one side of a tape or record.

Hide in the Light, the latest album from award-winning singer-songwriter Myc Sharratt, captures a feeling fit for a joyful journey home at summers end. The collection is a showcase of the intimate, more subtle side of Sharratt's vocal rarely revealed in the Vancouver Island product's first four independent albums. Beautifully woven ethereal sonic landscapes with lush electric guitars over dreamy beds of synthesizers are the backdrop for lyrical content touching on love, loss and regret. A hard-working man of the road Sharratt has crafted his live show through years of touring throughout Canada, USA and Ireland.

In November 1968, George Harrison released 'Wonderwall Music'. A soundtrack to an art film called 'Wonderwall' this predominantly Indian music collection was the first solo album to be released by a Beatle and also the first album on the newly formed Apple Records. George would continue to release albums on Apple (and EMI) through to 1975's soul-influenced 'Extra Texture (Read All About It)' touching on experimentalism with 'Electronic Sound', the magnificent triple album 'All Things Must Pass', the chart-topping 'Living In The Material World' and the, perhaps, less well-known 'Dark Horse'. This box brings all these eclectic albums together in one set that mirrors 2004's 'Dark Horse Years' box set and contain a perfect booklet. All albums have been remastered by Dhani Harrison and Paul Hicks.
