I would bet a lot of Bobby Vee's fans never thought that his material was so diverse - even after hearing the great body of work represented by his many LPs. I have been playing this 3-disc set repeatedly and will probably never stop hearing new things each time. His own exceptional writing talent gets a good showcase on this set, and - by the way - one hears a lot more of that in the recordings that have been coming out of his own Rockhouse Productions over the past couple decades.

Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, and Othar Turner, an approach that has given the NMA a solid grounding in local blues history as well as a solid sense of place, and by understanding and embracing the local North Mississippi modal drone approach, the Allstars have inherited a perfect springboard into a loose, ragged, but powerfully tight sound that somehow manages to seem both reverently traditional and completely contemporary at the same time.

Silent documentary following the 1924 British Mount Everest Expedition during which mountaineers Andrew Irvine and George Mallory met their untimely deaths. The expedition marked the third attempt to make the first ascent of the mountain. It remains under debate whether Irvine and Mallory made it to the summit but they were last seen 800 feet from the top before they disappeared. Mallory's body was discovered in 1999 but Irvine's has never been found. The film was recorded by Captain J.B.L. Noel and captures the progress of the expedition. With a newly commissioned score composed, orchestrated and conducted by Simon Fisher Turner (The Great White Silence) featuring a haunting combination of electronic music, found sounds, western and Nepalese instruments and vocals.
