Nick Moss Band's latest is a double CD titled From the Root to the Fruit. This release presents the musical story of the birth and growth of the blues genre as it relates to popular music. "The first CD has a bit of 40's and 50's jump blues, Texas, Chicago, and Uptown sounds. The second CD focuses on progressive/experimental music and delves into 60's soul, garage punk sound, high rhythm, soul, and harder sounds," says Moss. "I wanted to showcase my band. They're a group of guys who just keep growing musically and getting better and better. I also recognized that, as a band leader, I was growing too. And since From the Root to the Fruit is about the growth and development of music, it became an appropriate catalyst to tell the band's story and my story with the band."

This two-fer from Manifesto features a pair of out of print LPs by Turtles vocalists Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan (aka Flo & Eddie): The Phlorescent Leech & Eddie and Flo & Eddie, originally issued on Reprise in 1972 and 1973, respectively. Highlights among the 23 tracks include "Goodbye Surprise," "Another Pop Star's Life," "Marmendy Mill," and a cover of the Small Faces classic "Afterglow." Here's a really nice 2fer I just picked up, Flo & Eddie's first two releases in one package. I used to love the Turtles when I was a growing boy, then they showed up on Frank Zappa's Fillmore East 1971 opus and hilarity ensued. After leaving the Mothers, Flo & Eddie released their own stuff, these are the first two of their humorous output. A more extensive bio is listed below. Have fun.

Lost Balloons are Jeff Burke (Radioactivity, Marked Men, etc etc) and Yusuke Okada (of Japan’s incredible Suspicious Beasts). Texas and Japan team up for a trans-Pacific, 2 man summertime pop explosion. The 2 play all the instruments (although there is a live lineup as well) and split singing/songwriting duties. This is their 2nd album, following 2015’s self-titled debut. "Hey Summer" works fantastically well as an album, meant to be listened to from start-to-finish.

The 2013 box set Original Album Classics does not contain every one of Dave Edmunds' great albums there is no Get It, no Tracks on Wax 4, no Repeat When Necessary (nothing from Swan Song, in other words) but it does offer good and great records from throughout his career. Subtle as a Flying Mallet, D.E. 7th, I Hear You Rockin' Live, Information, and Riff Raff are all here, and while the latter two are a little hidebound to their Jeff Lynne production, they're enjoyable, while the first two range from great to very good. All and all, at this price it's a steal.
