1991 was a momentous year for The Brand New Heavies. They started it without a singer second on the bill to The James Taylor Quartet and by the end they were had a Top 3 US hit and were about to embark on a run of 16 Top 40 hits in the UK. N'Dea Davenport was by this point fronting the group as their guest singer, and the brilliant string of singles from their debut album were becoming locked in the minds of an ever growing fan base. Live they were a revelation. The only group from the UK scene who could do tight and slick, without slipping into 'lift music' blandness. The core membership of Andrew Levy, Simon Bartholomew and Jan Kincaid had been playing together since college and knew where the other was going. Their ability to write classic soul songs lifted them above their contemporaries. Shibuya 357 is the quintessential (and only live) document of an era that quickly passed.

Asia, featuring members of Yes, ELP and King Crimson, was the first "supergroup" of the eighties. Their eponymous debut album, released in 1982, was a huge success racking up global sales in excess of 15 million copies. In 2006 the original four members reunited for the first time in over 20 years for a series of concerts in the US and the UK. The success of this tour led to a full-blown world tour running throughout 2007 in celebration of their 25th anniversary. This CD was recorded in Tokyo in March 2007 on the Japanese leg of the tour.

Progressive Rock

Referred to as "the great white hope of progressive rock" by Rolling Stone; UK were one of the most influential and acclaimed supergroups of the 1970s. Originally formed in England in 1977 by keyboardist and electric-violinist Eddie Jobson (Roxy Music, Frank Zappa); vocalist and bassist John Wetton (King Crimson); guitarist Allan Holdsworth (Soft Machine); and drummer Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson, Genesis), UK represented the final statement of the classic progressive-rock era…

Whitesnake weathered the onslaught of grunge and alternative rock for as long as they could but eventually ceased operations in the early '90s. A one-off studio album, Restless Heart, appeared in 1997, but the group didn't officially re-form until 2002. Since then, Coverdale and company have released a string of well-received studio albums, including 2008's Good to Be Bad and 2011's Forevermore, the former-of-which hit number seven on the U.K. Albums Chart. In 2019, they celebrated their Deep Purple roots with the covers-based The Purple Album and again cracked the U.K. top ten with 2019's Flesh & Blood. They also released a trilogy of retrospective anthologies, 2020's Love Songs, 2020's The Rock Album, and 2021's The Blues Album, detailing their legacy at the nexus of commercial hard rock, pop, and heavy metal. Yorkshire native David Coverdale honed his powerful vocals in local groups in the late '60s and early '70s, so when he saw that Deep Purple was looking for a replacement for the recently departed Ian Gillian, he jumped at the chance to audition. He officially joined the band in 1973 and made his first studio appearance on the group's Gold-selling 1974 effort Burn.

After the end of the Sex Pistols Johnny Rotten (or John Lydon) had built a new career with his band Public Image Limited. The early albums, "First Issue", "Metal Box" and "Flowers Of Romance" are now seen as classics of post punk and the highlights of these albums are in this unique Rockpalast concert. The experimental mix of dub, punk, noise and dance still sounds fresh. Included is a rare performance of the Sex Pistols' "Anarchy in the UK" as well as a backstage interview and rehearsal footage.

Two CDs. Japan was an English new wave band formed in London in 1974 by David Sylvian (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Steve Jansen (drums), Richard Barbieri (keyboards) and Mick Karn (bass guitar). They started out as a glam rock-inspired band but developed their sound to incorporate electronic music and art rock influences, eventually becoming an influence on the 1980s New Romantic scene in the UK, although the band themselves were not a part of it. This set was recorded at The Budokan, Tokyo in December 1982 and was their fifth from last show on that tour. The band had become friends with Yellow Magic Orchestra who joined them on some of the performances here - "Bamboo Music" is a duet featuring Akiko Yano, and "Taking Islands In Africa" features Yukihiro Takahashi. Ryuichi Sakamoto also plays on those tracks.

Two Hands, One Mouth: Live in Europe is an album by American rock/pop group Sparks, released in March 2013. It is their first ever live album, and first double CD album. In October 2012, Ron and Russell Mael performed for the first time ever as a duo, with no band. The 18-city European tour titled "Two Hands, One Mouth" began in Lithuania and followed in Latvia, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, the UK and Ireland. The final UK concert of the tour was at the sold-out Barbican Centre in London. The tour then took the group to Japan with concerts in Tokyo and Osaka in January 2013. In April 2013, the show was presented for the first time in the US with two performances at the Coachella Festival. A short US tour followed.
