Along with Vivaldi’s ‘Seasons’ or Beethoven’s ‘Fifth’, Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos belong to those works that are so well-known that we risk taking them for granted. In order to (re-)discover the special qualities that can inspire us today, in 2001 Thomas Dausgaard and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra decided to contact six contemporary composer, asking each of them to compose a companion piece to one of the concertos.

Seventeen years later, in 2018, it was time to present the result, with a performance at the BBC Proms of all the works – new and old.

Uno dei dischi più dirompenti della musica pop italiana degli anni ’80 e ‘90; ovviamente lì per lì un mezzo flop, capito poco, ascoltato poco. Solo molti anni più tardi inizia a “crescere” tra il pubblico, A casa di Ida Rubinstein, restando però sempre un lavoro sostanzialmente di culto, citato (ed amato) solo dai veri appassionati. Un disco con cui Giuni Russo voleva liberarsi di Un’estate al mare e Alghero: canzoni di grande successo, certo, e che lei comunque amava, ma che l’avevano imprigionata in un ruolo che non sentiva minimamente suo, quella della sfornatrice di hit a misura di mercato e di airplay radiofonico (che a quell’epoca era legge assoluta). Troppo sfaccettata la sua personalità, troppo sfaccettata la sua curiosità artistica. Una vitale irriducibilità che allora (solo allora…?) non era tollerata dalla grande discografia, tant’è che la Russo venne bollata come “ingestibile” – questo addirittura su documenti ufficiali, nel travaglio legale per la risoluzione del contratto con la CGD a metà anni ’80.
